It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved father, husband, Nonno, and friend, Giovanni Colasuonno, who passed away peacefully on October 16, 2026, at the age of 88.
Born on July 22, 1938, in Toritto, Bari, Italy, Giovanni was the third of nine children born to Filomena and Vito Colasuonno. He grew up surrounded by the rich traditions of his Italian heritage, carrying with him throughout his life a deep appreciation for family, love, and the simple joys that make life beautiful.
Giovanni was the devoted and loving husband of Maria, with whom he shared 62 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they built a life filled with love, cherished memories, and the greatest blessing of all—their family. Their enduring partnership was a testament to a lifetime of commitment, devotion, and togetherness.
He was a proud and loving father to his two daughters, Milena (Brian Oberton) and Angela (Kevin Sterner), who were a constant source of love and pride in his life.
Nothing brought Giovanni greater happiness than being a Nonno to his five beloved grandchildren: Daniel, Johnathan, Joshua, Marina, and Mark. He treasured the time he spent with each of them, creating special memories that will forever remain in their hearts. His love, wisdom, sense of humour and presence will be deeply missed, but the lessons he shared and the memories they made together will live on for generations to come.
Giovanni found happiness in life's simple pleasures. He loved fishing, tending to his garden, and travelling, especially returning to his beloved Italy, where his roots and cherished memories remained close to his heart. Whether enjoying the outdoors, nurturing his garden, or spending precious time with his grandchildren, Giovanni knew how to appreciate the moments that mattered most. Above all, family was at the centre of his world, and the time he spent surrounded by those he loved was his greatest joy.
Giovanni is predeceased by his beloved parents, Filomena and Vito, and his brothers Leonardo, Paulo, and Nicola. He leaves behind his loving wife, Maria; his daughters, Milena and Angela; his five grandchildren; and his surviving siblings, sisters Angela and Anna, and brothers Mario, Franco, and Michele. He will also be lovingly remembered by his many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends in both Canada and Italy.
Though our hearts are broken by his passing, we are forever grateful for the years we shared with him, the love he gave so freely, and the beautiful legacy he leaves behind. His life was one of family, dedication, and love—a life that touched so many and will never be forgotten.
His hands may be still, but the love he planted in our hearts will continue to grow. Like the garden he so lovingly tended, his legacy will flourish through his children, grandchildren, and all those fortunate enough to have known him.
He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always remembered.
Riposa in pace, caro Giovanni. You will live in our hearts forever.
