Gordon Byman

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Gordon on December 15, 2021 at the St. Norbert Personal Care Home at the age of 93.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 62 years, Eunice (nee Berg), as well as his children Lori (Brian), Greg and grandchildren Steven, Andrew and James.

Gordon was born in 1928 and was one of 13 children. He spent his early years on the family farm in Menisino, MB. Not knowing what he wanted to do, he left Menisino and worked at different jobs in Ontario and BC. Gordon studied to become a diesel mechanic then began work for Webster Motors. Upon returning home he met the love of his life whom he married in 1959 before moving to Transcona in Winnipeg, where they began family life. He worked for Stern Trucks for many years before starting his own mobile mechanic business, Byman Mobile Truck Repair.

Gordon had a love for baseball and music. He was a pitcher and enjoyed playing catch with Lori and Greg. His love for music was shown in the many instruments he played, from guitar to violin to banjo. He played for many years in the band called The Borderliners in and around the town of Piney, Manitoba.

There were many family vacations to Peterborough, ON to visit his brothers, sisters and their families. In later years Gordon and Eunice travelled farther away when they visited Hawaii, Sweden, and also took a Caribbean Cruise.

After retiring as a mechanic, he became interested in helping Brian on the farm. He often helped with machine repairs and hauled grain during harvest even into his 80's. During this time, he and Eunice started a new hobby of old time and ballroom dancing where they attended different dances every weekend and made many new friends.

Gordon always made time for his grandsons who were the light of his life. He enjoyed watching them play soccer in spring and curl in the winter.
