It is with great sadness that the family of Greg Zuk announce his peaceful passing at Riverview Health Centre on Sunday, October 11, 2020 at the age of 83 years.
He is survived by Irene, his wife of 60 years, daughters Wendy MacKenzie (Peter), Jo-Anne Stuart (Jim), Patti Zuk (Tony), and Karen Jackson (Darrell). Also surviving are his grandchildren Sean MacKenzie (Jillian), Alyson Rodewald (Lucas), Leanne Lawson (Jordan), Megan Schott (Kiel), Emma and Matthew Jackson, and Jenna and Kelsey Stuart. He will also be sadly missed by his great-grandson Benjamin MacKenzie, his sister Pauline Ignash and many nieces and nephews.
Greg was born and raised on the family farm near Poplarfield, the youngest of 14 children. He attended school in that area and then moved to Winnipeg, finishing his high school education at Tec Voc High School where he was involved in the band, operettas, and many sports. He then went on to work at the Manitoba Telephone System, retiring in December 1999, “after 37 ½ years of loyal and dedicated service.” He travelled much of Manitoba during those years. After retiring from MTS, he spent many hours as a handyman and builder, willing to help anyone who asked. No project was too big or too small for him.
Family was everything to Greg, he was always happy to help with anything we needed which included finding the best money-saving deal. He wanted little and gave endlessly. His grandchildren grew up with his corny sense of humour, magic tricks and the nuggets of wisdom he shared. He was much loved and will be greatly missed.
The family thanks the staff of Wards 3 East and 2 West at Riverview Health Centre for the care they gave Greg, especially Rose for her wonderful care and support.
There will be no service at this time. In lieu of flowers, donations in Greg’s memory can be made to a charity of your choice.
