Remembered with Love

It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Imre Jim Takacs on March 26, 2021 at 81 years old.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife Elizabeth, daughter Tina Kerger (Doug Bowes), granddaughter Leah Kerger, sister-in-law Hilda Kilarski and mother-in-law Wilma Kilarski.

Jim was a devoted husband, loving father and proud Opi. His family was his joy and his faith was ever present in his life. Elizabeth, his beloved wife of 55 years had one daughter Tina and one granddaughter Leah. The girls in Jim’s life were the most important thing to him. Always quick with a laugh, Jim had many friends. People were drawn to him because of his good nature, honesty, and integrity. After immigrating to Canada in 1957, he created a life with his own business but was always willing to help others with theirs. There are many HVAC companies that Jim helped start and mentor. Highly regarded by wholesalers, competitors, and employees alike. He passed his entrepreneurial spirit onto first Tina, then Leah. Leah was Jim’s joy. He loved spending time with her, loved teasing her and loved helping her. Leah spoiled him forever when she took him to see his beloved Montreal Canadiens play the Winnipeg Jets in a private suite, that night left an impression on them both. Jim’s work ethic and integrity made him the “go to” HVAC guy for most of Manitoba’s Hutterite community. Many were clients but also good friends.

In the days since Jim’s passing the family has been flooded with thoughts and prayers, but also with stories of how Jim touched their lives. That is the legacy Jimmy leaves.

Due to Covid 19 restrictions a private service will be held. A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations to establish a Sheet Metal Journeyman Scholarship can be made to Jim Takacs Memorial Fund, 123 Meadowbank Road, Winnipeg, MB R3Y 1N7.

  • A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

I have been blessed to have some awesome role models in my lifetime and over the past 10 years Jim was certainly one of them. Always a man of high integrity and faith. Could answer questions about anything. Loaded with knowledge and willing to share and always enjoyed a good laugh! He will be greatly missed by our family, Elizabeth, Tina, Leah and myself. Jimmy was a man who always treated me with respect from the day I met him. As a younger person in the industry, Jim took the time to teach instead of criticize. A great man is gone and will be missed by all who knew him.

Jim was a great guy, I started my apprenticeship with Jim in the 70's. We worked together for many years. Jim always had a special greeting for his friends. Mine was "listen mister". I haven't seen Jim for quite awhile, he dropped into my work place last year. And yes the first thing he said was ...yes listen mister. He was a great guy and we always managed to stay good friends. I will miss you. Rest In Peace..
