

It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of James Torrance Barrie, with his family by his side on December 16, 2009 in Winnipeg at the age of 94. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Eileen Barrie, children: Albert (Marg), John, Bonnie (John) Enns, and by his grandchildren: Christian, Natalie, Chelsea, and Dana. James joined the Air Force and was a Staff Sergeant during the Second World War, during which time he met his wife Eileen in Ottawa. He was an active community volunteer, as a member of the Riverview Community Centre, and Riverview United Church, where he was one of the founding leaders of the “Cubs” (Scout Pack). He enjoyed curling at the Fort Rouge Curling Club and was made an Honorary Life Member of the Club in appreciation of his service. He was also an Honorary Life Member of the Past Presidents’ Association of Manitoba Curling Clubs. He retired from the City of Winnipeg as the Chief License Inspector after over thirty years of service. He spent his summers at the family cottage at Malachi, Ontario, and his winters curling and traveling. Funeral service was held Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at Klassen Funeral Home. Special thanks to the staff at Bethania Personal Care Home and Kildonan House for all their care and kindness.
