Les grew up in Winnipeg and graduated from Daniel McIntyre Collegiate in 1941. He joined the Canadian Merchant Navy soon after graduation and traveled the globe. Les married Helen Searle on December 29, 1944. Their daughter Carol was born on December 2, 1946.
Les was a long time employee of the CPR until his retirement in 1983 and in later years, worked for his nephew Paul and his family at Polycast. Helen and Les enjoyed travelling to many, many destinations and after retirement, they spent their winters in Texas until Helen’s passing in 1998.
Les was recently acknowledged for his 65 years of dedication to the Winnipeg Chapter of the S.P.E.B.S.Q.S.A. (Barbershop Harmony) where he had held several executive positions as well as singing bass with the Golden Chordsmen. This was truly a great passion for Les.
When Les wasn’t singing he was avidly volunteering for the Red River Exhibition.
Les was ALWAYS there to help out anyone in any way he could. He was fortunate to have been able to sing, travel and golf with family and friends up until his last day.
A celebration of Les’ life will be held on Thursday, August 9, 2018 at 10:00am at Thomson “In the Park” Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard. A private family Internment will follow the reception.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Sing Canada Harmony or any charity of your choice.
