It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, James Kuo, 86, of Winnipeg, Manitoba, on February 21, 2020. He is survived by his children, Alice (Bruce), Brian (Daphne), and Carey (Christina); and grandchildren, Kendra, Justin, Corrine, Leanne, Bailey, Michael and Aidan.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife Terry (nee Wu) in 2016.
James was born on September 10, 1933 in Taiwan, where he obtained scholarship at the National Taipei University of Education (國立臺北教育大學) and graduated with distinction. James taught Mathematics at the Taipei Municipal Datong High School (臺北市立大同中學). In 1967, James founded the Taipei Jian Gong Educational Institute (台北建功補習班) that had a successful track record in helping students achieve top scores on entrance exams to the elite schools and Universities in Taiwan. James continued to be a mentor to many of his former students throughout their studies and life journeys.
While working as a teacher, he met Terry, an elementary school teacher, and they were married on October 25, 1962. James and Terry immigrated to Winnipeg, Canada in 1976 in hope to offer a better life and future for their three children. James was a loving husband and a wonderful father and grandfather. James will forever be greatly missed by his children and grandchildren.
In accordance with James’ wish, cremation and a private family service have taken place.
To the staff at the Victoria Hospital, Palliative Program, Riverview Health Center and Dr. S Khan, our heartfelt thank you for the care and attention you gave our father over the last month.
