Jamieson Allan Longe

5 June, 1982 – 24 June, 2026
IN THE CARE OF

Thomson In The Park Funeral Home and Cemetery

Forever in our Hearts

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Jamieson Allan Longe surrounded by his family, following a lengthy journey with cancer. Jamie was able to celebrate his 44th birthday a few weeks before his death on June 24th, 2026 at the Grace Hospital in Winnipeg.

Jamie will be lovingly remembered by his wife Sarah Longe, mother Jan Landsiedel (Roy Landsiedel), father Harvey Longe (Kathy Longe), brother Andrew Longe (Nicole Longe), nephew Ethan Longe, niece Willow Longe, brother-in-law Tyler Yip (Anna Bond), nephews Asher Yip and Jonah Yip, brother-in-law Derek Yip (Kathy Yip), nephews Cole Beck and Dawson Beck, niece Julia Beck, and many other relatives and friends. Jamie is predeceased by his mother-in-law Brenda Yip.

Jamie was born June 5th, 1982 in Kenora (Ontario), a first-born son to his parents Jan and Harvey. Jamie was a cheerful, energetic boy, full of adventure and blessed with a great sense of humour. Jamie was very close with his younger brother Andy, and the brothers remained best friends into adulthood.

During his childhood in Kenora, Jamie attended King George VI School from Kindergarten to Grade 6, Lakewood School from Grade 7 to 9, and then Beaver Brae Secondary School from Grade 10 to 12. Andy also attended these schools and maintained a very close friendship with his older brother. Even though Andy was a skateboarder and Jamie was a football player (groups that usually didn’t hang out together), Jamie bridged the social gap and had those two groups hanging out together in no time. Friends from high school remember Jamie’s positive, joyful and personable character, always making everyone around him laugh.

Jamie had a musical gift. From an early age, he could play anything he picked up, including piano, guitar, harmonica, saxophone, and bagpipes. He loved jamming with friends in various bands, as well as attending live concerts and hosting house concerts. He also liked sitting by a campfire and strumming his guitar.

In 2002, Jamie moved to Winnipeg to work at World of Water. It was during this time that Jamie, who fervently loved to eat food, realized he didn’t really know how to cook. So he put his best energy into repeatedly preparing a top-notch bowl of ramen with a smattering of banana peppers. When Jamie moved back to Kenora for a few years, he dedicated himself to upping his cooking game. Everyone who has had the great fortune to experience Jamie’s cooking post-2006 can tell you his cooking was among the best they had ever tasted.

In 2010, Jamie’s close friend and co-worker Derek Yip introduced his sister Sarah to Jamie. Sarah and Jamie discovered they had many common interests. Sparks flew and they were dating by December of that year. Jamie and Sarah were married on September 12, 2015 at Fort Garry United Church in Winnipeg. They hosted many family dinners, house concerts, travelled abroad, went on many fishing trips, and enjoyed the quiet outdoors at their forest-edged property in Sprague, with their dogs Jake and Remi.

Jamie made friends everywhere he went. Everyone who worked with Jamie knew they would be in for quite a few laughs every shift. Between 2002 and 2025, Jamie worked as a sales rep at a few different places, bringing his infectious smile and sense of humour to Northwest Aqua, World of Water, Cabela’s and Baker Manufacturing. Jamie also spent some time working for CN and felt especially proud working for a company in which his grandfather, “Papa George” had worked. Papa George (Holmstrom) was a gentle, kind soul who inspired Jamie to be the compassionate, warm man that he was. Jamie even possessed Papa George’s railway keys and later got a tattoo of the keys with a “Papa” banner floating above.

Jamie loved exploring new places. He and Sarah travelled to Nashville, Colorado, San Francisco, New York, Kansas City, Texas, and Scotland. They also took a cruise to the Bahamas with Andy and his wife Nicole. Jamie especially loved being in Scotland, knowing that it was part of his heritage. He travelled to Scotland a few times and his last trip to Scotland was with his brother Andy and nephew Ethan.

Jamie loved life. He embraced spending time in nature by hunting, fishing and building a cabin from scratch. He also loved a good challenge like learning how to cook well! Or learning how to speak Spanish with a little help from Duolingo. Jamie loved people and he could light up a room with his presence. His sense of humour and optimism were admired and shared by all of his friends and family. Jamie was thoughtful beyond measure; taking the time and interest to help new-comer Canadians to settle in Winnipeg, volunteering for various community out-reach and church events, taking nieces and nephews to baseball games, shopping trips and road trips, and sending check-in texts to friends and family, always with a loving tone. Jamie’s life philosophy was simple: be kind, help others, and check in on the people near and far. You never truly know what someone else may be going through.

Jamie was diagnosed with stage 4 colorectal cancer in March 2023. While many people given that diagnosis would despair, Jamie courageously fought the disease with determined optimism and humour. Jamie leaned on Sarah for support, and he returned to church (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints) to spiritually reconnect with God. Jamie also reconnected with his sobriety friends and fellow AA members after his diagnosis. He was proud to celebrate 17 years of sobriety. Jamie maintained a positive spirit during the most challenging times, sending thoughtful messages to friends to see how they were holding up. When asked how he was doing, Jamie would always respond, “I’m in my prime” no matter how battered he was feeling from chemo, radiation or other medication side effects. Sarah supported Jamie with unwavering love and strength during his cancer journey until the very end.

Jamie’s family would like to thank the staff at the Grace Hospital in Winnipeg, for providing exceptional, compassionate care for Jamie. A celebration of Jamie’s life will be held on Monday July 27th at Assiniboia Downs (3975 Portage Ave, Winnipeg, MB). Doors open at 1:00pm for mingling, service starts at 2:00pm, and a light lunch will be served following the service. Feel free to dress casually, wear blue/Blue Jays gear, or plaid in honour of Jamie. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in honour of Jamie to CancerCare Manitoba.
