Jan Cornelis Broiels Plaizier

It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Jan C. (Kees) Plaizier on August 2, 2026, at the age of 66, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, surrounded by the love of his family after a courageous battle with glioblastoma.

Kees was a devoted husband, loving father, respected professor, and loyal friend. He was known for his kindness, generosity, compassion, integrity, and quiet strength. Whether in the classroom, among colleagues, or with family and friends, Kees made everyone feel valued through his patience, wisdom, and genuine care for others.

For many years, Kees served as a professor at the University of Manitoba, where he inspired generations of students through his passion for teaching, research, and mentorship. His influence extended far beyond the classroom, and he leaves a lasting legacy in the many lives he touched throughout his distinguished academic career.

Above all, Kees cherished his family. He shared a deep and loving marriage with his beloved wife, Paula Azevedo, whose unwavering love and devotion remained by his side throughout his illness. He was a proud and loving father to Peter and Alex, and he treasured every moment spent with his family.

Kees faced his illness with dignity, courage, and grace. His resilience and quiet determination were an inspiration to all who knew him.

He will be deeply missed by his wife, sons, extended family, friends, colleagues, former students, and all whose lives were enriched by knowing him. His kindness, wisdom, gentle spirit, and sense of humour will forever be remembered.

Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 13, 2026 at Thomson “In the Park” Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Kees may be made to the Kees Plaizier Memorial Scholarship at the University of Manitoba to support graduate students in Animal Science.
