Jiwan Karsan Koria

It is with sadness, and with gratitude for a long life well lived, that we announce the passing of Jiwanbhai Karsanbhai Koria, our dear “Bapuji”, who passed away on July 31, 2026, in St. François Xavier, Manitoba, at the age of 96.

Bapuji was born on August 25, 1929, in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, to the late Karsanbhai Hirabhai Koria and the late Vejiben Karsanbhai Koria. He was one of five siblings and was predeceased by his brothers Jethabhai and Jivrajbhai, and is survived by his sister Godavariben and brother Kantibhai.

Bapuji was the beloved husband of the late Jamunaben Jiwanbhai Koria. Together they built a family rooted in faith, respect, hard work, and strong values. He was a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, and greatgrandfather whose quiet strength, wisdom, kindness, and steady example shaped generations.

Bapuji was the loving father of the late Kantaben (the late Rajnikant), Chandulal (Kala), and Hasmukh (Hansa). He was a cherished grandfather to Roopesh (Marc), Jai, Seema (Danilo), and Josh (Swapnali), and a proud greatgrandfather to Maya and Jasmine. Though he was a man of few words, especially in his later years, his love was often expressed through quiet acts of kindness. His great-granddaughters delighted in the gentle rides he would give them on his walker as he made his daily rounds through the house, and he found great joy in hearing their laughter and watching them grow.

Lovingly known to his children and grandchildren as “Bapuji” or “Nanabapa”, he lived a life defined by resilience, discipline, compassion, and humility. He was devoted to his family and guided by his faith, tradition, and a strong work ethic. Even in his later years, he remained remarkably independent, approaching each day with quiet determination and dignity. A skilled carpenter by trade, Bapuji believed that anything worth building should be built to last. Whether it was a sturdy doghouse, custom closet shelving, or countless other projects completed over the years, his craftsmanship reflected the pride, care, and attention he brought to everything he did. Bapuji was also deeply charitable. Guided by his faith, he regularly supported charitable causes, helping people in need and contributing to the care and feeding of cows in India. He believed in giving back and quietly lived by the principle of serving others without seeking recognition.

Throughout his long life, Bapuji taught those around him through the example he set each day. His life reflected perseverance, humility, generosity, discipline, and devotion to family and faith. The values he lived by and the quiet kindness he showed to others will continue to inspire and guide those who knew and loved him.

A funeral service to celebrate and honour Bapuji's life will be held on Monday, August 10th, 2026 at 10:00am at Thompson in the Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard, Winnipeg, Manitoba.
