June 7, 1920 - August 8, 2010
Fondly known as Jo to one and all. Jo was predeceased by her parents, Maude and Edgar Ackland, beloved husband Chuck, and her two sisters, Margery (Margie) and Kathleen (Kay). She is survived by her niece Jill, nephew Brent (Dorothy) and their families.
Jo and Chuck shared a wonderful romance, starting in Winnipeg, when Chuck was training as a fighter pilot in Neepawa during WWII. They corresponded throughout the war, making arrangements to meet in England after Chuck returned from the India/Burma theatre, and were married in 1947. They lived in England for 10 years, eventually returning to Canada. A short stay in Winnipeg and they were off to West Vancouver to spend many happy years together. They travelled extensively, sharing an active social life and had many good friends. Jo opened her home to family, and enjoyed their visits both in England and Vancouver.
Jo worked at Acklands, the family business, then Eaton's before moving to England to be married. When they returned to Canada, Jo continued her career at Eaton's until retirement.
When Chuck passed away Jo lost her best friend, but remained active, both travelling and volunteering in her community until she was no longer able. Jo returned to Winnipeg in 2006, living independently in her own apartment until recently.
At Jo′s request, cremation has taken place with a private family memorial. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 6 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6.
