It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of John Matthewson on January 25,2026.
John was born in Winnipeg on June 19,1941. He was the eldest son of Ron and Jessie Matthewson.
He is survived by his sister Heather and brother Mark (Jeanne) and his nephews Jesse, Shane and Graeme Matthewson.
John loved sports; both playing and watching both football and hockey. He played hockey in the Manitoba Major Junior league and played both junior (St. James Rods) and senior football (Elmwood).
He graduated with a B.A in economics at Concordia College in Moorhead Minnesota (playing hockey for his beloved Cobbers).
He went on to work for 30 plus years for Maple Leaf Foods in Toronto, Red Deer, Edmonton and Winnipeg. He attained the position as the Vice-President of Manufacturing for Maple Leaf for all of Canada.
He spent his retirement summers enjoying the cottage life with his wife Gail in Minden, Ontario.
