It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Joseph Hryhorko at Health Sciences Centre on June 29, 2018 at the age of 84 years.
Joseph will be lovingly remembered by his wife Sally; daughters Pamela (Bert) and Sherri-Lynn (Darwin); grandchildren Ty and Tea.
Joseph (Joe or Uncle Joe) spent his life as a hardworking man who always put his family first. He was an accomplished carpenter who could make pretty much anything out of wood. Almost everyone in our family has some story about what he built for them and how he did it. He spent his early retirement years building all kinds of household things out of wood, which are proudly on display in the homes of his family.
Joe loved the outdoors and would spend countless hours in his younger years working in the garden, hunting, fishing and just being outside. When late spring came and the fishing season opened, he was in his glory. You could often find Joe out on his boat, fishing for hours. He shared this passion with anyone that he could; his daughters, brothers, cousins, nephews and great nephews. There was nothing like a good day fishing.
In his later years, he started to make the wood projects smaller and liked to work with leather. He still loved wood and has made several canes using different types of wood. He could tell you exactly what type of wood it was and why he choose that piece. His leather projects were more for the winter months and he made slippers, cell phone and knife covers, wallets and changes purses.
Joe was always busy, he couldn’t sit still. There was always something that needed to be done and he was the man to do it.
A Celebration of Joe’s Life will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, July 6, 2018 at Klassen Funeral Home, 1897 Henderson Highway. Donations in his memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
