With heavy hearts we announce that June Ustella Orloff nee Kallwies, 74 years old of Winnipeg, MB, passed away in the afternoon of March 14, 2021, at home in Winnipeg Beach, MB with her daughter by her side.
June was born on June 1, 1946 in St Boniface, MB; she was the youngest of three daughters born to Stella nee Opper and Herbert Kallwies.
June often reminisced about the time she lived in Cranbrook, BC, amongst several other places as a young girl before her family settled back in Winnipeg when she was a young teenager. At 15 years old, June quit school and entered the workforce when her dad was in a car accident that left him severely brain damaged, unable to provide for the family and to live out the rest of his life in the King George Hospital. June was a dutiful and loyal daughter until his death 28 years later.
June often spoke about her first job at the SAAN store warehouse, then her job at the family business Orloff Scrap Metals, and later her job as an Avon Sales Rep, amongst other jobs.
In 1966, June married Marvin Orloff and later had two children. She enjoyed being a wife, mother and a homemaker. June welcomed her children’s neighborhood and school friends into her home and enjoyed being involved in these friendships.
June was a kind, warm, sensitive and loving person. June was a woman of faith; a devout Christian and she took pride in being fair and just. June loved to cook, bake, craft, sew, read, do puzzles, write poetry, visit with family and friends over coffee and she appeared to have a passion for rearranging her household furniture and changing up her décor ….one would never know how things would look upon your next visit. She also loved to decorate for holidays, seasons and occasions.
June especially loved spending time outside in her yard and garden space in Melita, MB where she meticulously groomed her yard, planted (and transplanted) flowers, trees and again….one would never know how her garden and yard would look throughout each season as she changed the layout of her plants and décor regularly. Her neighbor and friend Tammy Thompson was always around for mom. June was a resident of Melita from 2003 until 2020.
June is survived by her son David Orloff, daughter Aileen Hutchins (Barry Hoel), her sister Vicki McNicholl, grandchildren AJ Hutchins, Aaryn Hutchins, Karlee Hutchins, ex-husband Marvin Orloff and numerous nieces and nephews. June was predeceased by her mother Stella, father Herbert, her mother’s second husband Larry Kimber, her eldest sister Via (Violet) Flett-Roulette, her brother-in-law Moe McNicholl, mother-in-law Hazel Orloff and father-in-law Louie Orloff.
