Peacefully on December 22, 2025, at the age of 82, following a lengthy illness, it is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Keith William Stathers with his family by his side
Left to remember Keith are his wife Sharon, children; Matthew (Cathy) and Tammis (Anthony), grandchildren; Matteo, Sabrina, Luca, Sofia, and Hayden, sister Lucy Waterhouse, nieces and nephews; Karryn Brooks, Carmen Kirk, Lee Butler, Bev Brazier, Michelle Brazier, Maxine Cook, Graeme Stathers, June Chapman, Andrew Heppenstall, Carol Creasey and Dawn Priestly; as well as Donna Sagness and James Cheetham who were like his other children.
Keith was predeceased by his mother Dorcas Shaw, father George Stathers, sisters; Sylvia Seager, Evelyn Heppenstall and Shirley Riggall, brothers; Albert Stathers, Norman Stathers, Harold Stathers and Niece Marilyn Hardy.
Keith was born in Boston, Lincolnshire, England January 7, 1943. He grew up in Boston attending Kitwood Boys school until at the age of 16 when he joined the Merchant Navy to earn money for the family, continue his education and see the world. Upon completing his time in the Merchant Navy, he returned to Boston and seeing opportunities for emigration to Canada, decided that he would move and find the furthest place he could get from the ocean, so in 1963 he moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Here in 1965, he quite literally ran into the love of his life Sharon, while attending the Winnipeg Roller Rink. On August 11, 1966, they were married. In 1970 Keith and Sharon welcomed their first child Tammis. They moved to 119 Villeneuve Ave., a newly built street of townhouses in St. Norbert, at the very south end of Pembina Highway in Winnipeg. There in 1973 they welcomed their son Matthew. In 1979 they moved to Queenston Bay in River Heights where they have lived for over 45 years, welcoming family and his five grandchildren who brought him so much joy and happiness.
Keith was a very loyal employee. He worked for NCR, National Cash Register where he started in 1967 as a salesman, and worked his way into the world of programming, taking courses at Red River to hone this new skill. He worked there until 1982, and after a brief stint at a small company called QWERTY, located in the Convention Center, Keith moved to Gendis Inc. in 1983. He started out working in the computer room until he saw an opening in the Point-of-Sale department, managing the retail cash registers and accompanying systems. He managed this department until at the age of 62, he retired.
In his retirement he returned to the ocean where he and Sharon spent many years cruising all over the world. He also spent countless hours volunteering at the Humane Society, walking the dogs and playing with the animals. I reminded him of all of things he had done, lives he touched and the places he had been, as he fought the hardest part his battle over the past few months. He has seen more of the world than most people have and provided this opportunity to his wife Sharon, as well who likely would never have done this on her own.
