Leonard Robert Bruce Suppes was born on December 15, 1949 in Regina, Saskatchewan. He lost his long battle with Multiple Sclerosis on March 28, 2018 at St. Boniface in Winnipeg, Manitoba at the age of 68.
He was pre-deceased by his mother Ethel; grandmother Molly and grandfather Jack.
Leonard is survived by his children Clancy, Owen and Katrina; grandchildren Jose, Elizabeth, Brenden, Liam, Imriel, Emily, Max and Helena; and sisters Patty, Geraldine and Darlene.
Leonard’s life took him to many different regions of Canada including Rhine, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Victoria and Toronto. He made friends and joined communities wherever he travelled. He loved to read, intellectualize and before his disease robbed him of his fine motor skills, he brought joy to everyone’s ears through his music, particularly the guitar and banjo.
Leonard spent his adult life living the tenants of the 12 Steps. He acted as a sponsor for too many to count through his participation in Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous, becoming a father figure to many of his friends in recovery. He proudly celebrated his 34th year clean and sober, and was an inspiration to many who wish to do the same.
Leonard will be greatly missed by his friends, family and his 12 Steps community. His advocacy and mentorship has created a legacy that will live on through the people he touched with his support and love.
A funeral and Wake service will be held on Saturday April 14, 2018 from 6:00 pm to 12:00 am at Thomson “In the Park” Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard.
