It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Margaret Agnes Schneider (nee Martel) on August 31, 2026.
Margaret was born on December 14, 1937 in La Broquerie, Manitoba to Albert and Alice Martel - into a large family of 14 siblings. She is predeceased by her husband Robert Schneider and son Richard Schneider. She leaves behind her children Janice (Abdalla), Arlene (Brad), Christine, Roberta (Robert) and Robert (Jackie). She is also survived by her 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Margaret’s kindness and compassion was evident from a young age. As one of the oldest children, she helped her parents care for her siblings and provided them unconditional love and support. Her family grew when she had 6 children with her husband and love of her life, Robert. She loved her children with her whole heart and shared her love of cooking, gardening, and enjoying life to the fullest. Margaret’s defining quality was her big heart – something she once told her doctor during a routine check-up.
In the 1980s, Margaret and Robert enjoyed their time managing the Columbus Centennial Centre in Winnipeg where she catered events for the community. Margaret and Robert also owned Shingwak Resort in Sioux Narrows, Ontario, from late 1980 into the early 1990s. Their time in Shingwak brought many wonderful memories not only for them, but for their children and grandchildren. Margaret was a hard worker and was never afraid to get dirty – maintenance, landscaping, and managing the resort was her passion and her incredible work ethic shown through.
The sudden loss of her husband in late 1990 was devastating for Margaret and their children. However, it was during this time that her strength and courage shined brightly. She continued managing Shingwak and remained a pillar of love, support, and strength for her ever-growing family. Margaret never once complained – she pushed through life with a strength and compassion that inspired her children to do the same.
Margaret’s love of the holidays, especially Christmas, allowed her to display her culinary excellence. All of her children would agree that she was the best cook ever – she could make incredible dishes from seemingly nothing and passed along these skills to her children. She adored hosting and entertaining her friends and family, as quality time and acts of service were two of her love languages.
For the last three years, Margaret lived at Action Margarete in St. Boniface, Winnipeg. She was adored by staff who cared for her so well. A huge thank you to all who cared and treated our mother with kindness and respect. To honor Margaret’s wishes, a service will not be held.
Mom, you will always be in our hearts and prayers.
