Maria Cecilia Cruz

Maria Cecilia Cruz passed away peacefully at St. Boniface Hospital on September 1, 2026 with her family by her side. She is lovingly survived by her children: José and son Gabriel Anthony (Amanda) and their son River; Maria Elena and Flor.

Maria was preceded by her parents Carlos Rivas and Rafaela Cruz, her sisters and her beloved partner Victor.

Maria Cecilia was born in El Salvador and immigrated to Canada leaving her old life behind to begin a new chapter in her life. She dedicated her life to hard work and family. She was passionate about cooking and was a woman of immense warmth. She delighted everyone with her pupusas and tamales.

All who knew her admired her clever intuitive nature and down-to-earth personality. She was known to speak the truth and had a deep faith in God.

She cherished her cats, dogs, wild birds (blue jays) which she lovingly cared for and defended. Her home was a sanctuary, and she uprooted human guests from the table so her cat could take her place at the window. Her companions were Meemers, Shadow, and Speedy.

She found her professional calling in the hospitality industry where she strived for perfection and was a meticulous worker. She earned deep respect from hotel guests and her dear colleagues.

She leaves behind numerous loving nephews and nieces as well as a wonderful circle of beautiful friends and she will be deeply missed. Until we meet again in God's Heavenly Kingdom. We find comfort knowing she is now resting in God's eternal Glory and heavenly abode that God prepared for her.

Maria Cecilia, you lived a spirited life full of strength with a vibrant personality. Mamá, you loved life and all your close family and friends. You have been a fierce light in this world and always had our best interest at heart. You embraced us with your love and will live in our heart forever. Always, a guiding light and deeply blessing us with your presence by being our courage and strength that we'll carry in our hearts.
