Melissa was the oldest of four sisters, and one baby brother. She absolutely loved this role, always having a real-life baby to feed, hold and change. She was always willing to help with THE KIDS.
Melissa’s childhood was filled with trips to the beach, camping, playing outside with her siblings and the neighborhood children. Melissa was the one catching the frogs and spiders for her sisters. When it was time for everyone to get a new beanie baby, Melissa chose the snail or crab, while the others picked the bunny, puppy or kitty.
Melissa enjoyed Hello Kitty (later getting a tattoo), drawing, reading, for her 16th birthday, asking for a William Shakespeare book, hand sewing, and crafts with her friends during sleepovers almost every weekend.
During her teen years, Melissa loved summer camps, Air Cadet, Circle Square and Gimli Bible Camp, where she volunteered one summer.
She had a quiet soul, free spirit, a creative touch, and a passion for art and music. Her laughter, kindness, and unique personality brought hoy to her family.
Melissa’s life was not without tragedy and challenges, but she faced them with strength in way many never saw. Her family will remember not only the struggles she endured, but the beautiful person she was – her smile, her creativity, her love, and the moment they shared together.
Melissa is survived by her daughter Kiona, nieces and nephews. Lovingly remembered by her mom Melanie and her siblings, Deanna and Justin. Melissa was predeceased by her sister, Amanda and Alyssa, who have gone before her. Her family finds comfort in imagining Melissa reunited with her sisters, Grann Shelby and Grampa Clifford.
The family wishes to thank everyone for the love, prayers, and support shown during this incredibly difficult time. Melissa will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
A celebration of Melissa’s life will be held on August 10th, 2026 at 10:00 am at Klassen Funeral Home, at 1897 Henderson Highway, with reception to follow at Kildonan Park.
Her Mom asks that you honor Melissa’s memory by showing kindness to others, especially the vulnerable of our society.
