It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Olympia Filopoulos, on January 9, 2026, at the age of 95.
She was born in Mati/Gyosa, Pheneos, Greece in 1930. She came to Winnipeg on her own in 1958, finding work as a seamstress. Shortly afterwards, her husband-to-be, Constantine (Gus) Filopoulos, arrived, and they married in Winnipeg in 1959. After the birth of their twins in 1960, they moved to Thompson in 1966, where they both worked until 1978, at which time they returned to Winnipeg and worked as restauranteurs until 1995.
Olympia is survived by her two sons, Chris (Leslie) and Peter (Donalee), along with their families: Christine (Jordan), Matthew, Jessica (Mathieu), and their children, Rui, Olive, Indiana, and Ozzi; Becky (Andrew) and daughter Ivy; Luke (Jill), and children Jude, Mila, and Willow; Emily (Justin) as well as her brother, Dimitri Goritsas (Maria), and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded by her husband, Gus; her two brothers, Adonis and Elia; as well as her parents, Panagiotis and Georgia.
The funeral service will be held at Thomson In the Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, located at 1291 McGillivray Blvd, Winnipeg, Manitoba The service is scheduled for January 20, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am.
Following the funeral service, a reception will take place from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm. also at Thomson In the Park Funeral Home.
The committal service will be held at Waverley Memorial Gardens, located at 1501 Waverley Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba on January 20, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 1:30 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, the Diabetes Foundation of Manitoba, or the Alzheimer’s Foundation of Manitoba.
