It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Prem Nath Bhalla (85), of Winnipeg, Manitoba. He passed away peacefully in the early morning of Sunday, June 13, 2021.
Prem was born on January 24, 1936 in Punjab, India to Amar Nath and Shakuntala Bhalla. He grew up in Uganda, and then studied engineering in England. In 1965, he returned to East Africa to marry Pratibha. Together they spent 10 years in Brighton before moving to Winnipeg in 1975. Winnipeg quickly became home for them as they immersed themselves in the community.
Being a strong and dependable community member was of the utmost importance to Prem and he did not disappoint. He took an avid role in the Hindu Society of Manitoba, the Intercultural Council of Manitoba, and the Folk Arts Council of Manitoba, just to name a few. He believed strongly in giving back to his community and he volunteered countless hours throughout his life.
In addition to Pratibha, Prem is survived by his brother (Jatinder) and sister (Sudesh); daughters Shashi (Sanjay), Sangita (Adrian), and Meera (Nimesh); and his grandchildren: Rohin, Rohan, Naina, Zeeva and Deyven. He will always be remembered as a loving and caring Nana, and a beloved Uncle Prem to so many.
The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, June 19 at 2:00 pm. Those wish may view the service via livestream by following this link: https://youtu.be/Orjty6nM8X0
For those who wish, in lieu of flowers, we are asking that memorial donations be sent to the Manjari Sankurathri Memorial Foundation (MSMF) directed towards the Prevent Blindness Fund, https://msmf.ca/donate-online/. This was a charity very close to dad’s heart.
