Robert William Dines
1 April, 1931 – 24 December, 2020
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Bob on December 24, 2020 at the age of 89. Bob will be lovingly remembered by his daughter Cindy, son-in-law Jack, and his grandchildren, Emily and John. Bob was predeceased by his parents, William and Eva, sister Peggy, and the love of his life and wife of 54 years, Eleanor. He was a true to his birthday on April Fool’s Day as he loved nothing more than teasing people and telling jokes. Bob had a larger than life personality. He was intensely interested in everyone he met. Bob’s blue eyes always had a charismatic twinkle that made people feel special. Bob grew up in River Heights attending Kelvin High School. Upon his graduation from the University of Manitoba he joined the Hudson’s Bay Company. He was very proud of his years at The Bay and rose to the position of Regional Sales Manager for Manitoba and Saskatchewan in his final years with the company. Following his retirement from The Bay he joined Westfair Foods working in retail management at the Real Canadian Superstore. Bob’s favourite place was the cottage at Trout Lake, Ontario. Many happy times were spent there with his family, fishing, playing cards and relaxing on the dock. Bob loved sports and was a lifelong Winnipeg Blue Bomber and Winnipeg Jets fan, never missing a game. He was also a proud member of the Westminster United Church and greatly enjoyed being part of that community. Sadly, dementia robbed Bob of his vibrant personality in the last years of his life. Our family is grateful for the care and compassion the staff at Tuxedo Villa extended to Bob. Family was everything to my Dad. We will miss him so much. Thank you for leaving us with a lifetime of wonderful memories and your constant love and support. Cremation has taken place. Bob’s ashes will be scattered on his island at Trout Lake in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba or the Winnipeg Humane Society.

A sad Christmas for you Cindy and family with the loss of your dear Dad, and a sad day for us when told of his death. Like so many, our memories of Bob are filled with good thoughts of the hours & hours we spent together in Dollard des Ormeaux, Que., and with the Guglielmins. Every New Year’s Eve Norm and I reminisce over the fun nights with Bob & Eleanor ringing in the New Year, especially the one where I knocked out his tooth when we were skating, before midnight. Bob was a delight to know, and one who could fill the room with laughter. But also a kind, loving and thoughtful friend to know. He left us with so many happy memories.
