Robert “Bob” Hayes was born on June 5, 1931 to Mr. Frederick Hayes and Mrs. Maude Hayes (Simpkins) in Wynyard, Saskatchewan. He passed away peacefully, at 88 years young, on January 30, 2020 with family close by.
Bob is survived by wife, Eunice Hayes (Busch), son Richard (Carol), daughter Katherine (Liz), and son Robert (Shelley), granddaughters Hayley and Freya, grandsons Kris (Christy), Rick (Tanya) and Jason, great-grandchildren Brooklyn, Isaiah, and Abby, and his sister Betty Rugg.
Bob was predeceased by his son Gary, as well as brothers Allan, Cliff and Howard, and sister, Barbara.
Bob often spoke of the wonderful times he had as a boy growing up in Wynyard. He moved to Winnipeg in 1948 and met the love of his life, Eunice “Uni.” They married on June 16, 1956.
Bob worked for the City of Winnipeg, Engineering Department in 1950, transferring to the City Clerk’s Department in 1966. Bob was promoted to Deputy City Clerk in 1979, then City Clerk in 1987. He devoted many years as Secretary to the Winnipeg Police Commission. Bob retired after 41 years of service.
Bob was often whistling or singing as he worked on his next project. He was a storyteller, machinist, engineer, glider pilot, motorcyclist and builder of steam locomotives, boats and his own cherry red sports car. He was a creative, positive, easygoing man who was caring to all. Bob was deeply loved and will be missed by all who knew him.
