It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ronald (Ron) Saull beloved father, brother and son on August 14, 2021 at the age of 69 at the St. Boniface Palliative Care unit. He died peacefully, comforted by his family who were at his side.
Ron is predeceased by his parents Alma and Gerry. He is succeeded by his sons Jeffrey and Michael and their mother Lucille, his brothers Bob (Kim), Rick (Margaret) and his sister Karen (Jim). He has left behind many nieces and nephews and their children who also loved him dearly: Trish (Kirby), Shaun (Caitlin), Ali (Justin), Katie (Brad), David, Kerry, Carter and Peyton.
Ron, affectionately called “Elliott” by those close to him always put family first. He adored his boys Michael and Jeffrey, loved his brothers and sister and worshipped his Mom and Dad.
Along with his passion for his lovely home and family Ron loved life. He lived it to the fullest. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, travelling and of course, golf. In his earlier years he developed a passion for running. In fact, he completed a Tin Man Triathlon as well as no less than 12 marathons (his best time of 3:15 was a proud moment). An example of his resolve when he set his mind to things. Likewise his prowess in golf was such that he and professional golfer Tom Lehman won the Pro Am tournament at a major PGA event. Wintering in Palm Springs and more recently Mexico was always a happy time for Ron.
From the time he earned a scholarship to the Dartmouth Academy winning several awards during his tenure, he excelled in every aspect of his work and had a meteoric rise in every phase of his career. He was proud of his achievements in his endeavours which included (but not limited to) the Manitoba Government and his earlier role with System House. Ron retired from his role as EVP & Global CIO, Great-West LifeCO & IGM Financial in 2015. In his retirement he enjoyed such positions as: Member of the Advisory Board for Payworks Payroll Services Canada; Director, Board of Managers CMMI Institute/ISACA; and, Member of Manitoba Judicial Inquiry Board. As a leader his work ethic and integrity was marvelled by many. He became friends with most people he worked with in particular those who he personally coached and mentored. During the course of his career with GWL he spent precious time in Ireland (home of our ancestors) and developed many lasting friendships over the years.
He will always be remembered for his logical mind, razor like wit and of course his “to do lists”. His kind and gentle nature had a lasting impact on us all and his smile was infectious. It literally lit up the room. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
“He whom we love and lose is no longer where he was before. He is now wherever we are.”
Always in our hearts, may he rest in peace.
Dazzit!
