Sebastian Gerardo Martin

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Sebastian Martin on July 13, 2026, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, at the age of 42.

Born in Winnipeg on December 22, 1983, Sebastian was a beloved son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving mother, Gilda; his brothers, Steven, David, and Victor (Erica); and his cherished nephew, Matteo and step niece Paige. He is also survived by his uncle Delfin, aunt Rosa, and cousins Julia and Anthony.

In Spain, Sebastian leaves behind his aunt Teresa; his uncle Agustin (Mari) and cousins Anna and Nuria, along with their families; and his uncle Ignacio (Lola) and cousins Carlos, Maria, and Elizabeth, and their families. In Argentina, he is lovingly remembered by his aunt Lina (Osvaldo), cousins Gaby and Pablo, and their families, as well as his aunt Maria, cousin Francisco, cousin Mariela, and her children. Sebastian also leaves behind many friends and extended family members whose lives were enriched by his kindness, loyalty, and friendship.

Sebastian was predeceased by his father, Gerardo Martin, in 2016.

For the past eighteen years, Sebastian lived with the challenges of schizophrenia, anxiety, depression, and other mental health disabilities. Despite these difficulties, he remained intelligent, curious, and deeply passionate about the things he loved. He had a lifelong interest in technology and was always eager to learn about the latest developments in computer hardware and software. An avid PC gamer, Sebastian enjoyed connecting with friends through online gaming communities and shared many lasting friendships through this passion.

Sebastian also loved building and customizing computers and games, often spending hours researching components, solving technical problems, and helping friends and family with their technology needs. He took pride in sharing his knowledge and was always willing to lend a hand when someone needed assistance.

Throughout his life, Sebastian faced significant challenges with remarkable resilience. Those who knew him best will remember his thoughtful nature, quiet sense of humor, generosity, and genuine interest in others. While mental illness shaped many aspects of his journey, it never defined the person he was. He was much more than his struggles — he was a son who was deeply loved, a brother who was cherished, and a friend who will be fondly remembered.

A celebration of Sebastian's life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Sebastian's memory to the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) – Manitoba and Winnipeg, in support of mental health awareness, advocacy, and services for individuals and families affected by mental illness.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all those who offered Sebastian care, compassion, support, and friendship throughout his life.

Though he is no longer with us, Sebastian's memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
