It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Sharon Margaret Weitkowitz (nee Goodman), on October 31st, 2025 at the age of 78.
Sharon was surrounded by love as she peacefully passed away at Concordia Place after a long illness.
Sharon is survived by her husband Peter Weitkowitz, her son Douglas (Jen), daughters Deborah (Pat) and Darlene (Michael).
She is also survived by her grandsons Kyle (Danielle) and Connor and great granddaughter, and several nieces and nephews.
She is pre-deceased by her parents Jean and Montague Goodman, sister Elaine Bogdanich, brother David Goodman, nephew Dave Jr Goodman and granddaughter Kiera Weitkowitz.
Sharon was born in Winnipeg Manitoba March 12, 1947, and was the youngest in the family.
Sharon met her loving husband Peter, when she was 21 years old. They had a courtship of just 3 1/2months and a marriage of over 56 years. The day after being married, Sharon was whisked away to Swan River where Peter had continued his career in banking. This was the first of their 18 moves throughout their marriage when they finally settled in Winnipeg to be close to both of their families.
With each move, Sharon would establish her own home daycare. Her largest daycare was in Dryden Ontario. She had around a total of 20 children that would be in her care at some point throughout each week. In 1983 when the family settled into Winnipeg, Sharon started working in the provincial government on a term. This lead to her final role as an Office Manager at the Legislature Building. She was always very proud of this. If you were to ask her, she was only working ‘temporarily’, however that lasted 26 years! As she would often say, ‘Not too bad for someone who only finished grade 10’.
Sharon was a wonderful Mom to her three children. There was nothing that she wouldn’t do to help them to be loving, successful and have a good life. She was always proud of their accomplishments and would be ready with a hug at a moments notice. No matter how old you got, the offer of tea, slippers or a blanket would always be made as soon as we came to visit. It was always best to accept at least one!
Sharon and Peter had many adventures throughout their marriage. Their summers were spent camping, bike riding, hiking and traveling. This lead to parasailing, whitewater rafting, horseback riding in the mountains, cruises and even scooter tours. Her passion however was the love of her gardening and feeding any animal that came into her yard. A garden tour was always first on the list when you stopped by the house.
Sharon had two best friends, her sister Elaine and her dear friend Maureen. Despite Elaine being eight years older, her ‘baby sister’ meant the world to her. They enjoyed their time together each summer when Elaine came to visit from Vancouver. Maureen, you were her best friend for over 60 years. Your love and support will always be remembered by her family.
Sharon/Mom, you will be always be loved and deeply missed. You were a kind and gentle soul and adored by everyone who had the pleasure to know you.
We would like to give thanks to both Bergen Gardens Memory Care Centre and Concordia Place. You loved Sharon like your family. We will always be grateful for your care.
A celebration of life will be held at Bergen Gardens (1475 Molson St.) on Tuesday November 18th from 2:00 - 4:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Alzheimer’s Society would be greatly appreciated.
