After a life filled with love for God, love for family and love for life Starlit was called home by her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Star passed away peacefully after a year long battle with cancer at the Riverview Health Center in Winnipeg on February 1, 2022.
She was born in Swift Current Sk Nov 4, 1955. Her family finally settled in Regina, where she grew up with her 2 younger brothers, Shelby and Brad. They shared much laughter and warm memories and leaned to trust in Jesus at a young age. Star married the love of her life Jim Dutton, in 1974 and they enjoyed a loving marriage, serving the Lord together for over 47 years. Star was a 35 year cancer survivor, having survived a battle with stage 3 Hogkins Disease in 1986. Star and Jim lived in Saskatoon, Regina, and Thunder Bay before finally settling in Winnipeg, MB in 1995. While in Thunder Bay, Star attended Confederation College and received a 2 year diploma in Health Records graduating at the top of her class. After moving to Winnipeg she was hired by Riverview Health Center in the Communication/records area before moving to a full time position as a scheduling clerk in the EMG clinic, where she stayed until she ended her career on Dec 24, 2020.
Star loved shopping, reading, crafting (especially crochet) and travelling and camping with her husband and she loved her family, always relishing time spent with her children and grandchildren. It is because of this love for family that she will be sadly missed by husband Jim, her 3 daughters Jaime (Jarrod) Giesbrecht, Robin (Wesley) Budakowski, Michelle (Michael) Myers, her grandchildren Caleb, Isaac, Kenya, Maya, Lucy, Isabelle, Eden, Silas, Lily, Ella, Nora, Gabriel, Zephan, Poppy, Jethro, and Hazel, her mother Gladys Thiessen, 2 brothers Shelby (Grace) Thiessen, Brad Thiesesen and many nieces and nephews. She will also be sorely missed by her co-workers and friends. She was pre-deceased by her father, LeRoy Thiessen, her grand parents John and Margaret Goertzen and Jacob and Sarah Thiessen.
She had a great zest for life, as well as a deep love and devotion for her Lord. It was incredible to watch her faith flourish, even as the cancer and its treatments robbed her of so much. The legacy of faith that she leaves behind is one of the best gifts she could ever have given us. “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven” Matthew 5:14-16
We wish to thank the Paliative care staff at Riverview Health Center and the WRHA for their excellent care. We would also like to thank the home care nurses and health care aids for the care they provided which enabled Star to stay at home until the day before her death.
In lieu of flowers please make a donation to Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child, a beloved ministry of Star. She LOVED filling those shoeboxes full, to capacity!
A Celebration of Star’s Life will be held on Saturday, May 7 at 1:00 pm at Grant Memorial Baptist Church, 877 Wilkes Avenue.
