Tom passed unexpectedly, at 54 years of age, at the Community Garden on Sherbrook St. near Broadway, in Winnipeg.
He is survived by his mother, Noreen; sister, Teresa, and her husband, Brian McLean; brother, Ken; and nephew, David, who live in Toronto, Ontario; his father, Larry, and stepsister Connie (Trevor) Spence, who live in Surrey, BC; his nephews, Lucas (Lauren), and Evan (Tori), in Winnipeg, his aunts, Mary Coling, and Barbara (Daniel) Norris, in Ontario; and his many friends.
Tom was creative and resourceful, known for his inventive cooking and baking techniques, and his ability to "MacGyver" most anything.
He loved to cook, paint, play wild electric guitar; he had a playful sense of humour, a trickster, and was always, always smoking, and always with friends.
He lived the beat generation poetry: "Follow your inner moonlight; don't hide the madness" - Allen Ginsberg; and carried Jack Kerouac's novel "On the Road" with him for a time.
His life was not easy, but he was free.
Tom saw the beauty and humour in life, and he will be dearly missed by his family and many friends.
