Mrs. Valentina Derksen Horaski

October 14, 1925 – March 7, 2011

It is with sadness in our hearts we announce the sudden and peaceful passing of our mom on March 7, 2011 in Calgary at the age of 85.

Beloved mother of Christa Dalke of Regina, SK, Lora Capar (Phil Clark) of Winnipeg, Irene Ross (Harold) of Carlyle, SK and sister of Peter Derksen of Winnipeg. She was predeceased by her mother Natalie Derksen in 1985 and husbands, Henry Loewen in 1962 and Henry Horaski in 1980.

Mom was born in Zaporozhye, Ukraine, on October 14, 1925. She immigrated from Europe to Canada in 1948. Although Mom lived her senior years in Calgary, she considered Winnipeg to be her home where she married, raised her children and was baptized at the First Mennonite Church.

Her dedication and love for her children was outstanding. She possessed a great inner strength which helped her through many of life’s challenges and hardships. Mom was brave and gentle and always approached things with a quiet dignity and respect for others. She will be fondly missed but forever remembered by her three girls, nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Monday, March 14, 2011 at 1:30 pm at Klassen Funeral Home, with interment following in Glen Eden Memorial Gardens.
