In Loving Memory

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Vladimir Konevsky, also known to many as Walter, who passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 2, 2026.

Born in Moscow, Russia, Vladimir graduated from Moscow University with a degree in film production. He went on to manage the Russian Ice ballet, Gypsy theatre, and circus productions. After spending time in Italy, he immigrated to Canada in 1975, where he built his life defined by hard work and determination.

After arriving in Canada, Vladimir briefly entered the construction industry before owning and operating his own taxi. He later became a successful entrepreneur, owning and operating a hotel in downtown Winnipeg for over 30 years. He also had a lifelong passion for horse racing and proudly owned and raced several champion horses.

Family meant everything to Vladimir. He was a devoted father who loved his children deeply. His greatest joy was spending time with family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He will lovingly be remembered by his partner of over 30 years, Carol Leskiw; his son, Sasha; and his daughter, Kristal (Peter Potrebko). He was a proud grandfather to Brooklynn, Madison (Markese Kelly), Bailey, Brenna, and Matthew, and a great-grandfather to Chloe, Journey, and Cyrus.

The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the staff in the Emergency Department and Unit H7 at the Health Sciences Centre for their care and compassion.

In accordance with his wishes, he was cremated. A private family gathering was held in his honour, and a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
