Peacefully, following a 5 year battle with Cancer, and with his wife by his side, we announce the passing of Willard Schur on October 29,2025 at the age of 71.
Willard will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Joyce, children Andrea (Daniel Camaclang) and Kevin (Errin), grandchildren - Lane, Brielle, Ada, Everly, Vivienne, his sister, Carolyn (Dave Fetsch) and numerous beloved family members and friends.
Willard was predeceased by his parents, Henry and Jean Schur, his in-laws, Bill and Frieda Boerchers, brother, Danny Schur and niece, Amy Shannon Marie Boerchers.
Willard was born in Dauphin, Manitoba, but early on in his life, the Schur family moved to Ethelbert, Manitoba. After helping his dad farm throughout his school days, Willard moved to Winnipeg and completed a degree in Agriculture from the University of Manitoba in 1976. Following University, he worked briefly at the steel mill in Selkirk, and then the Department of Agriculture in the Interlake, before he returned to Ethelbert in 1980 to farm until his retirement.
In 1982, he married Joyce Boerchers, later welcoming children, Andrea and Kevin. Throughout his time in Ethelbert, he was involved in various community recreational activities, served as a school trustee, and worked part time at the water treatment plant.
Willard and Joyce sold the farm in 2019 and moved to Winnipeg to be closer to family. He was an involved grandpa, and greatly enjoyed trips out of the city to his hobby property near Joyce’s family in Laurier, Manitoba.
Willard’s life was dedicated to his faith in Jesus Christ, farming, family and friends. In each of those areas, he was committed, passionate, loyal, enthusiastic, and good humoured. Willard was most at peace in the outdoors, finding small miracles and beauty in nature. He loved the freedom and autonomy of farming and “going for a drive”, and was always eager to find and make a deal on machinery or land. He was most content laughing around a table of loved ones, sharing a meal, playing a board game, or telling a story; he loved his church communities and friends in McCreary, Dauphin, Ethelbert, Garland and now in Winnipeg. He was a well-rounded athlete and maintained a love of sport into retirement. A patient teacher, and a “hands-on”coach, he loved instructing his siblings and cousins, kids, nieces and nephews, community members, and eventually his grandkids, in both athletics and life skills.
A funeral service and reception will be held on Friday, November 7, 2025 at 10 am at Thomson "In the Park", 1291 McGillivray Blvd in Winnipeg. The family welcomes casual attire.
Interment will follow at St. Vital Cemetery.
Willard’s family thanks anyone who provided support, especially in these past 2 months. Also, thank you to the Palliative 3E staff at Riverview Health Center and the team at CancerCare Victoria Hospital for their care.
