With great love and sadness we announce the passing of William (Bill) on February 3rd at the age of 96.
He was predeceased by his father Arthur Lorne and mother Jean Irene as well as his siblings Jack, Bob and June.
Left to mourn are his wife Ruth, children Jennifer, Peter, Paul, Jacqueline (Larry), former son in-law Terry, and former daughter in law Kathleen.
Grandchildren Brittany (Aaron), Stephen (Brittany), Maria, Michael, Caitlin (Jason), and Madison. Great grandchildren Keira, Blake, Alijah and Saidey.
Bill was born and raised in Toronto, Ontario. He and Ruth married in 1953 and raised four children. At the age of 18, Bill started his career with Northern Electric later known as Nortel. Bill was promoted and moved the family to Winnipeg in 1963. Through his diligence and perseverance he advanced to the position of Accounts Executive and then Sales Manager for all of Western Canada. He was loyal and stayed with the company for 42 years until his retirement.
Bill and Ruth spent much of their free time entertaining friends. They loved to travel and stayed in Florida every year for months at a time. They made many trips to Toronto to go to the family cottage and visit with friends and relatives.
Bill had a competitive nature and enjoyed sports both as an avid participant and spectator. He played hockey for the Toronto Marlboros when he was younger. He later took up curling and lawn bowling. He won several tournaments in both sports.
He was always getting involved wherever he lived. Recently he lived at Lindenwood Manor and was on the board of directors. There he initiated having a crosswalk installed. This was a big accomplishment for him as it took many years to be done. Thank you to all the staff at the Manor for making Bill’s years there so happy.
His children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were a source of great joy for him. He took pride in all of their accomplishments. He would attend their sporting events, piano recitals and several Christmas plays. He loved being a dad and grandfather.
Bill had many long lasting friendships. His friends were so important to him. He enjoyed having them over to visit or watch a game. He was so grateful for all the kindness they showed him.
Bill’s christian faith became more important to him over the years. He wanted to join the Catholic Church and was able to do so four days before he left us.
He suffered from so much pain and was courageous to the end. We were blessed to be able to spend time with him at the Grace hospital before he was taken from us. Many kind thanks to the Grace hospital medical and nursing staff that took such good care of him over the last few weeks.
Cremation has taken place. A funeral mass will be held at St. John Brebeuf Parish Friday, February 20th at 11:30 am. 1707 John Brebeuf Place. Reception will follow in the basement of the parish.
