Even though we have not seen each other for 14 years, your smile is as clear as yesterday. You have always been calm, warm, kind-hearted, willing to help others at your own sacrifice. You are a true friend to many, even the unlikeable people. There is special grace flowing out of you from within. You are like a dear sister to me. 

You are a loving wife and mom. I can't imagine how sad Kuizhong and Leo are without you. I am relieved to know that they have found comfort and strength in Christ.

I have lot to say but don't know how to start. I have read your message board and viewed your pictures several times. Thanks Kuizhong!  As a friend since junior high school, I really really miss you and am workng on adjusting myself to the fact that you are gone. out of all your beautiful characters, your strong and calmness is out of my imagination. still remember our conversation on your 40th birthday when you first diagnosed with breath cancer, you were so strong, calm and brave.  now 9 and half years later on your last day of your life, feeling something was wrong, I picked up my phone and talked to kuizhong....knowing your left in peace without pain was a big release. Xiaoyou, now you have nothing to worry about, no more cancers and they will never never come back again. Leo and Kuizhong will be just fine. Leo has grown to a strong, positive and healthy young man. xiaoyun, you have inspired so many people. you have brought so much to others lives. I am so luck to have you in my life. we talked about everything that friends can possibly share. we talked about families and how you were proud of Leo and Kuizhong. we talked about how to cure your disease, and we even talked about how to face death. hard to say by Xiaoyun. still remember even in your last few months of your life, you were still doing research to cure yourself. it is  you, on one side so beautiful, tender and kind. on the other side, so strong, open and brave. you will always be with us.

When I read all the messages and memories of this beautiful lady whom I called Mrs. Wang, I am truly humbled to know and spend time with the last three weeks of her life at the hospital. I am very shocked to hear this sad news. Xiaoyun was our teacher at Dalian University of Technology. She preferred us to call her Mary which was her English name at that time instead of "Wang Lao Shi", a more formal way of calling a teacher in China. She was elegant and tender, with a loving heart, and always nice and calm with a smile on her face. When I first went to US for graduate school in 1995, she called me and asked if my migraine was getting better – she remembered these details of her students! Unfortunately after I moved to California we have lost connection. I heard from other students that she was fighting against cancer with great courage. Mary was highly respected by us students and was in our thoughts during 2012 student reunion… May you rest in peace Mary! You will always be remembered.

There was something very angelic about Xiaoyun.  I loved being in her company in our Tuesday group meetings.  She will be sadly missed.  I think of her often.  Joan

I am so sorry to hear about Xiaoyun's passing. We were great colleagues together in the PhD program at McGill during her later years. I always appreciated her calm reassurance and warm smile through the difficult intellectual process of research...and it was with immense joy that I was able to reconnect with her many years later at a conference and see how she seemed strong and how much she had accomplished as a tenured professor and great mom to an almost grown Leo! I was just thinking of you Xiaoyun earlier this year--I hope you felt it--but regret I didn't know you were so ill again. My heart goes out to your family in Canada and in China. It is with shock and sorrow that I learnt of Xiaoyun's passing. Not having any biological children of my own, I always considered my graduate students as my intellectual children. So for me the anguish is that of a father losing his child…it is a terrible loss to all of us as Xiaoyun has still so much to give to the world. She was generous as she was strong. I greatly admired her fortitude and her level-headed intellect. I also feel for Leo. I was his age, and in university when my own mother passed away. I know the feeling. I hope her memory will give Lin strength to bear the loss and that time will heal the wounds. My heart is with both Lin and Leo as they try to make sense of this profound loss.
