~Life story~
Yvette was the youngest of her three siblings and grew up in the St Vital area in Winnipeg. She attended Hastings Jr High and then Dakota Collegiate High School. She was a star high school basketball player which earned her recognition and university scholarships.
She attended the University of Winnipeg where she played on the women’s basketball team. She also attended Dalhousie University where she earned her degree in social work and played on their women’s basketball team. Yvette also played on the junior national team representing Canada.
She later returned to Winnipeg and started a career in the public sector and shortly thereafter transitioned to the private sector. She was passionate about accessibility and safety in the workplace and a lot of her work reflected that. During that time she met her husband Wayne and together they started a family with their two children. Yvette was a loving and supportive mother and spouse, as well as a close friend to many. She spent her free time coaching high school and community level basketball for several years. She also had a cat named Garnett who she cared for and loved. She always knew how to make people laugh and kept a positive attitude through the obstacles she faced in life. She was very loved and life will never be the same without her.
A service will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, September 11th at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home and Cemetery, 1291 McGillivray Blvd.
Yvette's family would like to send thanks to her wonderful friends for their support, as well as to her medical staff at the Grace Hospital and St. Boniface Hospital.
