She was born May 11, 1932 in Forsyth County to the late Henry and Rachel Dinkins Stoneman.
Mrs. Cornett was married to her loving husband, the late Jack Dale Cornett, for 70 years. Together they raised three children. Both being of great faith, they prayed for their family through many trials and celebrated many victories.
She was a faithful member of Bethany Baptist Church until her health started failing. She was a dedicated Sunday School teacher for 44 years.
Mrs. Cornett worked in retail at Davis Department Store until her retirement. She enjoyed her co-workers and, especially, her customers. Mrs Cornett had a natural gift for making friends and communicating with anyone she met. She never saw or met a stranger. She was a friend to all, greeting them with a smile and offering encouragement.
For many years she and her husband, Jack, enjoyed traveling with friends and meeting new people. She always found pleasure, peace, and comfort in nature where she could enjoy the beauty of God's creations.
Those left to cherish her memory are her three children, Steven Cornett, Michael (Denise) Cornett, and Linda (Michael) Duncan; four granddaughters, Sara Cornett, Stephanie (Nathan) Whitehead, Christina (Benjamin) Combs, and Victoria (Christopher) Alexandra, to whom she was affectionately known as MamMaw. Her fondest memories were being with her children, grandchildren, and her four great-grandchildren, Jack, Bennett, Adeline, and Reese, who brought her great joy, happiness, and pleasure. Bettie enjoyed nothing more than hosting family get-togethers, especially during the holidays.
As a woman of great faith, she taught her children and grandchildren by being a role model, setting an example of strength, courage, hope, and grace as she endured and fought a chronic illness for many years.
The family is grateful and would like to send their appreciation to their mom's special friend, Ruby Webster, her sister-in-law, Jannette Stoneman, and her nephew, Carl Beck. The family would also like to send their sincere thanks and gratitude to Dr. Heather Shearer and the Derrick Davis Cancer Center staff. Their excellent care provided additional years for us with our mom.
If Bettie could leave one final thought to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, it would be to trust your instincts. After your faith, nothing is more important than family. Always be there for each other and always remember that God is in control. Your prayers will be answered, just listen and let God whisper how.
A funeral service and celebration of life will be on Monday, October 27th at 1pm at Vogler Funeral & Cremations. The family will receive friends beginning at 12pm prior to the service. Interment will be at Forsyth Memorial Park immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to the Melanoma Research Alliance through the American Cancer Society.
