Betty Lou Self Cooke passed on April 18, 2022, at Abernethy Laurels Assisted Living in Newton, NC. She was the daughter of Eugene Henry Self and Ester Stanley Self and was married to Elbert Gary Cooke.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband Elbert Gary Cooke, her parents, brothers E. H. Self, Jr., Wendell Self, and Stanley Self, and her beloved sister, Clarice Gentry.
Betty was retired from AT&T formerly Western Electric. She was a long-time member of Oak Summit Methodist Church. She served as a Red Cross volunteer and for many years with her sister as a volunteer at the Exhibition Hall at the Carolina Classic Fair.
She is survived by her daughters Sharon Cooke, Susan Cooke Barnette (David), three grandchildren Brooke Guthrie, Leigh Sigmon (Andy), and John Barnette (Cathy) and four great grandchildren Erica Ambrose, Max Sigmon, Harrison Sigmon and Charlotte Barnette. She is also survived by three sisters-in-law and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held Tuesday, April 26th at 11am at Forsyth Memorial Park officiated by Rev. John Barnette.
