Margaret Sue Sapp, 75, of Wake Forest, NC, passed into our Lord’s more immediate presence on October 8, 2022 in Stokesdale, NC. Sue is predeceased by her father (E. Dennis Disher), mother (Mary Janell Disher), and two sisters (Pearl Janell Disher and Katherine D. Downs). She is survived by her daughters Jeany Hicks (Tony) of Wake Forest, NC, and Jill Conner (Sean) of San Pedro, CA; her grandchildren Ian Conner of San Pedro, CA, Grayson Hicks (Joe McCann) of Raleigh, and Bailey Hicks of Wake Forest; and her former spouse Donald Sapp (Janet) of Winston-Salem.
Born in Forsyth County in 1946, Sue was a talented homemaker, gardener, and seamstress. She helped to build her family’s home in Tobaccoville from drawing the plans to laying cinder blocks to wallpapering and decorating. She was an activist who protected her neighborhood by organizing a successful campaign against a quarry. She canned vegetables in summer, arranged flowers for weddings, designed costumes for plays, and would tackle just about anything else she took a notion to.
Sue was a faithful parent volunteer of 19 years supporting her daughters in school, band, sports, clubs, and other activities. She generously gave back to her community through Stokes County Arts Council, Yokefellow Prison Ministry, Meals on Wheels delivery, and Girl Scouts; she also faithfully served King Moravian church as a board member, synod delegate, and head diener. As a lifelong lover of words and learning, she earned her B.A. in English from Salem College in 1992. For the last 30 years, Sue has been a fun and loving “Oma” to her three grandchildren attending their birthday parties, concerts, plays, recitals, games, and other activities.
Sue was also an animal lover extraordinaire who rescued, nurtured, and rehabilitated pets and wildlife her whole life inspiring her children and grandchildren to do the same. Her family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Red Dog Farm Animal Rescue Network of Stokesdale, NC. https://reddogfarm.com/
A memorial service will be held at Raleigh Moravian Church on December 16 and a graveside service at Forsyth Memorial Park, Winston-Salem December 17.
