Nellie "Leona" Ball

Leona was the daughter of H.A. and Blanche Ball of Hickory. She is survived by two sisters, Shirley Cline of Winston Salem, and Greta Robinson (Carroll) of Irmo, SC; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Connie Overcash (“Bill”) of Hickory, Millie Hollar (Harold) of Ashville, and Jean Ball of Creston.

Leona was a loving and generous sister, aunt, and friend. Family and friends share happy memories of her hospitality at numerous gatherings and other celebrations.

She is best known as owner and operator of “Leona’s,” an antique shop in Hickory.

Leona was a compassionate and empathetic person; and a passionate animal lover. She rescued innumerable homeless cats and dogs.

She was a member of Clifton United Methodist Church, in Clifton, NC.

Memorials can be made to The Humane Society or a local animal rescue group of choice.
