“ Whom have I in heaven but you? And there is nothing on earth that I desire other than you. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.” Psalm 73:25-26
Pat was born on January 10, 1935, in Winston-Salem, NC, the first of five children born to Chesney Lane Eubanks, Sr. and Adella Grubbs Eubanks. She grew up in a lively and loving home alongside her four brothers, and including her beloved Grandaddy Grubbs and Aunt Mabel. She fondly recalled childhood days spent playing in the backyard and enjoying fresh vegetables from the family garden, especially raw onions and cucumbers, simple pleasures that stayed with her throughout her life.
H.S. Kress was the company where Pat first worked, being promoted from the stockroom to the sales floor due to her vivacious personality. After graduating from Hanes High School in 1953, Pat entered Draughon Business College. Her education prepared her for work in the teletype departments at the Duplan Corporation and the Western Electric Company.
On a double date in 1955 Pat met the love of her life, Aubrey Lee Highfill. They were married at Fairview Moravian Church on December 20, 1957, and built a life on faith, family and service. The couple had two daughters Leigh Ann and Melanie, and remained devoted members of their church community for many years. Together they founded Highfill Consulting, CPA where they worked until retirement.
Pat was a devoted Mother, Grandmother, and best friend who saw the good in everyone. She was known for her loving nature, listening heart, and wise counsel. Her deep and abiding faith
was the cornerstone of her life. One of her favorite Bible verses was “Thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” I Corinthians 15:57.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Aubrey; parents; brother Chesney Eubanks, Jr.; and sisters-in-law Dot, Frances, and Shannon Eubanks. She is survived by her daughters Leigh Ann (Michael) Leinbach, Melanie (Carl) Shamel, granddaughter Aubrey Shamel, and grandsons Garrett (Ariel) Hatfield and Jacob Leinbach, and great grandsons Teddy and Fletcher Hatfield, brothers Otis (Linda) Eubanks, Richard and Larry Eubanks, many nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews. She will also be dearly missed by her grand dogs Callie, Lillie, and Jasmine.
The family would like to thank a special nurse coach, Gabby, who faithfully called each Friday to check on Mom and provide supportive care. Gabby brought many smiles to Momma’s face. And to the many Doctors and Nurses of Novant Health for their care and kindness.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the church or ministry outreach program of choice.
A Celebration of Life will be held on March 21, 2026 at 1 pm in the Chapel at Forsyth Memorial Park, 3815 Yadkinville Road, NC 27106.
