Robert Steven Piedad

Robert Steven Piedad, known as “Bob” to many, passed away peacefully on Monday September 15th, 2025 surrounded by family. He was born on September 5th, 1955, in Michigan to Alice Piedad and the late Frank S Piedad Sr.

After graduating high school, Bob joined the Army where he was an 82nd Airborne paratrooper at Fort Bragg. He excelled as an expert marksman with rifle.

Bob was the first of the family to move back to North Carolina, and his siblings followed behind him through the years. He met the love of his life, Susan, and they married in 1990.

He attended N.C. State University, where he graduated Summa Cumlaude with his Bachelor’s of Science in Electrical Engineering.

Bob was employed by Cree, where he later retired.

After retirement, he pursued his passion, which was his music.

Bob moved to Albuquerque, NM where he created his own company, designing and building amplifiers, called Rudy’s Guitar and Amplifiers.

Bob found joy in the simple things and was the happiest with a guitar (or bird) in his hands. He enjoyed playing and listening to music and being around those that cherished him.

Bob had a gentle and kind spirit and was deeply loved by all that knew him, especially by his family. His laugh was infectious and his heart was pure gold.

He will be missed deeply on earth but will be welcomed with wide open arms by his angels in heaven.

In addition to his father, Bob was predeceased by his loving wife, Susan G Shaw and his beloved birds, Rudy, Pete, and Lucy, brother Frank S Piedad Jr., and sister, Stefanie Hartman.

Bob is survived by his mother, Alice Piedad and sisters Marguerite (John) Barnett and Andrea (Robert) Engelmann, nieces Madeline Hartman (Harrison), Sophia Barnett, nephew, Griffith Engelmann, and a host of extended family and close friends.

A small intimate service will be held for close family and friends on Saturday September 20th, 2025 at 11am, in the chapel at Vogler Funeral Home at Forsyth Memorial Park in Winston Salem. A graveside burial in the park will follow the service.
