He was born in Columbus, Ohio on June 6, 1943 and graduated from Johnstown High School. He received his further education in the hands of the U.S. Navy, serving aboard the USS Hissem in Operation “Deep Freeze” and in the Vietnam War.
After his honorable discharge from the Navy, Ed worked for IBM until his retirement. Post-retirement, he enjoyed working in British pubs around the Boca Raton/Delray Beach area and was proud to pour a proper pint of Guinness. He enjoyed growing tropical fruits and flowers in his home garden and was also an accomplished home chef who loved feeding the people who came to his home. Many of his original recipe creations live on in the kitchens of friends and family.
In addition to bartending, gardening, and cooking, Ed traveled extensively. His favorite trips were to the British Isles, where he pursued photography, the perfect pint, and local friendships. He also loved trips to Stu and Bev’s bungalows on Ambergris Caye in Belize. Over the course of his life, Ed visited all of the continents except Antarctica, most of them more than once. He held the unofficial Navy titles of Blue Nose, Shellback, Golden Dragon, Order of Magellan, and Order of the Ditch.
Ed is survived, and will be deeply missed, by the children from his marriage to Jeanne D. (Mirenda) Harrigan, Christine Landaker Charbonneau, Edwin J. Landaker, and Nicole J. Landaker; his grandchildren, Madeleine, Gwyneth, Oona, and Desmond Landaker; his niece who was like a daughter, Roberta Eichner; and his brother, James Landaker.
Ed will be laid to rest in a private ceremony at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery, in honor of the military service of which he was so proud.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like to request donations to the Navy and Marine Corps Relief Society, World Central Kitchen, or the American Cancer Society.
