It is often said that angels walk among us, and truly Julia Mazelin was an angel that graced this earth for 75 years.
Julia’s granddaughter Crista recently posted on her blog:
"My grandma is an ultra-cool chick. She enjoys fashion and shopping. She keeps her hair colored and her nails polished. (Grandpa colors her hair) Grandma frequents a fashion boutique in her neighborhood, and this is where she purchases her fancy clothing. If Grandma likes your handbag or your newest pair of Rocket Dogs, she may go out and purchase a look-alike for herself. Grandma is very popular, she has a lot of friends. She is hip to modern day technology, she owns an iPod, texts regularly, and keeps up with her Facebook page."
Yes, it's true, Julia was a fashionista and loved, loved, loved shopping. But, as Crista also wrote: "Grandma is also very thoughtful, and spiritual." Julia loved the Lord with a very quiet and steadfast faith. Her faith was so evident in the way she lived her life, always giving of herself to others in so many ways. She quickly forgave wrongs done to her, and never gave up on those she loved, always believing in the best in everyone she knew. Julia collected angels as she strongly believed it important to have at least one near her at all times..
Julia married the love of her life, Harry, in 1956. Their marriage was faith-centered, as stated in their own words at their 50th anniversary celebration: "Our Love shines, undiminished by the years, and glows a burnished gold. The Lord has blessed our marriage and our Love is young, not old." What a true blessing to spend 56 years married to your best friend. Life threw many circumstances their way, and there were some trying times for them as for all married couples, yet Julia and Harry found joy in each other, each and every day. While they each had their own interests, they truly enjoyed hanging together. Their work on the CAPS program was an activity they recently devoted many hours to, and have been responsible for helping to establish this worthy program. They are a true role model for their children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews to follow.
Julia never met a stranger. While sometimes shy in front of crowds, she loved to make new friends, to spend time with old friends, and was so very faithful at keeping in touch with friends both old and new. She welcomed all into her home,, and Harry and Julia planned many trips around the opportunity to catch up with those dear to them.
Julia loved her family -- parents, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, sisters, brothers, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles. Julia had a talent for creativity and thoroughly enjoyed using her hands and creative instincts to create a variety of items for family and friends -- pot holders, wall hangings, pillows, sweedish weave throws, quilted jackets, and incredibly beautiful quilts. Julia held many positions over the years -- sewing custom curtains, selling clothing, serving as an attendant at an assisted living facility (she treasured her time with the residents), and she even had a doggie clothing business for a few years !! Julia was a champion for each and every one of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and other extended family, loving unconditionally, encouraging the best in them, understanding and forgiving their mistakes, so much enjoying any time spent talking to or hanging out with !!
Julia was a beautiful lady in every way. Her smile was contagious, and she was an absolute joy to all who knew her. We were not ready to give her up yet. She brought so much joy and love into each of our lives, and there was so much more of life’s experiences we wanted to share with her. And yet, God in his wisdom called his angel home. We will miss her every day but know that she is smiling down on us, and her quiet, steadfast faith and love will guide us through the rest of our days.
