

Avis R. Kasper, 92, of Orlando suffered a massive heart attack and passed away on Monday, July 25, 2016 at the Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center in Daytona. Avis was born on May 15, 1924 in Columbia, Maine; daughter of Augustus and Mildred Carter. In 1947, she married Harold Kasper who was in the U.S. Army and stationed in Maine. In 1951, the family moved to Harold’s home state of Florida. Harold preceded her in death in 2005. Avis worked in the cafeteria at Kaley Elementary while her daughters attended there. She also worked over 20 years as a full time daycare worker sharing her love for children. This included several years at The Salvation Army Daycare Center in Orlando. She enjoyed reading, playing cards, playing bingo, and spending time with her family. Avis was a member of The Salvation Army for 62 years and regularly attended their church services. You could always find her on the fourth pew from the back of the Chapel.
Avis is survived by her three daughters – Elfreda Champion-Roe of Winter Park, FL, Leta Dickenson and her husband James of Longwood, FL, and Wanda McDonald of Yuma, AZ; five grandchildren – Brian Champion, James “Robbie” Champion, Eric McDonald, David Dickenson, and Sabrina Dickenson Turri; four great grandchildren – Chelsea Champion, Egan McDonald, Alona and Lorenzo Turri.
Visitation will be held at Baldwin Fairchild Ivanhoe Chapel, 301 NE Ivanhoe Blvd., Orlando, FL, on Saturday, July 30, 2016 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. The funeral service will be held at 2:00pm on Sunday, July 31, 2016 at The Salvation Army located at 440 W. Colonial Drive, Orlando, FL. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to The Salvation Army in her memory.
