

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Esther “Ruth” Edgar, 91 who left us on February 10, 2026. Her love was the glue that held the family together. She taught us kindness, laughter, and was the heart of family gatherings. Not only was she our wonderful mother but was a surrogate mother to so many in her Winter Park neighborhood and was loved by all. She had a great sense of humor and a beautiful smile. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
She was born on October 18, 1934 in Tampa, Florida to Fred Alexander Baity and Carrie Esther Entrekin Baity. She married John David Edgar (Jack) on August 11, 1958 for 41 years and together they built a life centered on faith and family. Ruth was a graduate of Hillsborough High School. She had a 30 year career at JCPenney after lovingly raising her four sons. Ruth enjoyed playing the organ, crochet, collecting dolls and ceramic shoes. She especially loved crossword puzzles. She spent her life surrounded by the love and happiness of her family. She was a faithful servant of the Lord and her life was a testament to her faith.
She is survived by her sons, John D. Edgar Jr. (Jacky), Joseph S. Edgar and wife Julie, Fred B. Edgar and wife Pam, Paul E. Edgar and wife Kim. She is survived by her nine grandchildren, Ryan Edgar, Emily Edgar, Joseph D.B. Edgar and wife Haley, Amanda Scott and husband James, Brittney Thrower and Rick Smith, Katie Beard and husband Joshua, Evah-May Conner and husband Christian, Mia Edgar-Wommack and husband Peter Daniel, and Olivia Edgar. She is also survived by six great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband John David Edgar (Jack), a veteran of the Army and Navy. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Fred A. Baity Jr. and wife Pam and Davis C. Baity and surviving wife Barbara.
A visitation will be held at Baldwin-Fairchild Goldenrod Funeral Home, 7520 Aloma Ave, Winter Park, Florida, 32792, on February 20, 2026, from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm.
The funeral service will follow at the same location from 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm.
A committal service will take place at Glen Haven Memorial Park, 2300 Temple Dr, Winter Park, FL, 32789, on February 20, 2026, from 3:00 pm to 3:30 pm.
