

LECHER, EUGENE "GENE" CHARLES, April 9, 1923 to Dec. 26, 2011. Gene was born in Plainfield, NJ and raised in North Plainfield, NJ. He was one of two children born to the late Eugene LeCher Sr. and Anna LeCher, nee Cooper. Gene attended North Plainfield High School where he met his future wife, Renee Hamrah. He played both offense and defense on the high school varsity football team, where he scored many touchdowns. Following high school Gene enlisted in the United States Navy in 1943 and fought during World War II. He served bravely aboard the USS Oberon which participated in both European and Pacific missions during the war. After returning from the Navy, Gene and Renee were married in 1947 and started their family. Gene was a dedicated, devoted, and loving father of five children, whom he raised in North Plainfield and then Bridgewater, NJ. Later he moved to Orlando, FL, where he worked until he retired from his nearly lifelong occupation at the Bell Telephone Company / ATT. He will be remembered very fondly for his extreme love and family devotion by his adoring children, Reneé LeCher, Lawrence LeCher, and Michael LeCher, his predeceased children Gail LeCher and James LeCher; treasured grandchildren, Kyle LeCher, Callie LeCher, and Keith LeCher; sister, Virginia Grandner, and many other friends and family whom all have had fond thoughts for him and held him in the highest regard his entire life. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, Dec. 30, 2011 at 9:30 AM, at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Winter Park, FL, with burial to follow at Chapel Hill Cemetery in Orlando, FL.
