She was born March 1st, 1933 to Arthur E. Sr. and Lydia Jeffers in Detroit Michigan. She was the second child with Arthur E. Jr. (Art) as her older brother. The family then moved to settle in Three Rivers, MI in 1949.
Jean attended Western Michigan State College where she became an active and lifelong member of her sorority Delta, Zeta. While in College, she met and fell in love with Roger Meyer, who was to become her future husband. She graduated with a bachelors degree in Education around 1951. In 1955, Jean and Roger were married and quickly began their family. This marriage was blessed with 4 children; Teri (Bob) Helms, Margaret (Joe) Gundlach, Steven (Gina) Meyer and Nancy (John) Kopack. They have 8 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Jean and Roger would live 63 wonderful and happy years together when Roger was called to meet with the Lord in 2012.
In the early years of their marriage, the Meyer family moved quite often as Roger made his way up the corporate ladder working for Georgia Pacific. They moved across the United States, from North West Oregon, to the South East, Florida. Some of their kids fondest memories seemed to have been from Portland, Oregon. The family made their final and lasting move to Orlando, Florida in 1976. Jean and most of her children have found the Central Florida area to be considered their true home.
Jean was a teacher and educator, through and true! Her love of children was palpable whenever you were lucky enough to hear her many heartfelt memories of being an Elementary school teacher. Those were happy memories that she loved to share with whomever was willing to listen to them.
Jean used to reminisce about the loving memories from their involvement with lifetime friends at the Rolling Hills Golf Club. She greatly enjoyed playing golf and so did Roger. Together with their friends, they were able to see many parts of the world.
Jean loved socializing and eating a good meal. If in a restaurant, Jean always found an opportunity to talk to people or “just chitchat “ about life. Hers, was always an attitude that life was interesting and “fun”.
She had a charismatic personality, who never met a stranger. She was the life of the party and people loved and admired her. She made friends for life and was always there to lend a listening ear. She will be greatly missed since we have lost a loving mother, a faithful friend and an important family member.
