
Laurel Martin was born on March 4, 1936, to Doris and Emmanuel Clarke in St. Andrew, Jamaica. As a child, she attended Congregational School. She immigrated to London, England, in 1961, where she attended nursing school and became a registered nurse. A loving mother of eleven children, she leaves behind a legacy of kindness, devotion, and unwavering faith. She dedicated her life to caring for others, first as a nurse in England and later as a Certified Nursing Assistant in the United States. Her decision to forgo further schooling was driven by her deep commitment to her family, allowing her to be present for her beloved daughter, Nathalie.
Laurel had an infectious laugh and a heart full of compassion, qualities that shone brightly in her work with all types of patients. Her gentle touch and nurturing spirit brought comfort to countless individuals, earning her heartfelt gratitude from families who entrusted her with the care of their loved ones. Over the years, she received numerous letters of appreciation, a testament to the extraordinary kindness and dedication she showed in every interaction.
She was predeceased by her parents, Doris and Emmanuel Clarke. Two of her four sisters, Minerva Clarke, Joan Taylor, her son Paul, and her daughter Yvonne Martin.
She is survived by her loving and dedicated husband of over 60 years, Max Martin, and children, Raymond, Max, Norman, Stuart, Dave, Derek, Kevin, Ivor, and Nathalie. Twenty-five grandchildren and twenty-four great-grandchildren.
Her love and warmth will live on in the lives she touched. Laurel loved the Lord, finding strength and solace in her faith, which guided her through life’s joys and challenges.
Her family and friends will forever cherish her memory, as will all those fortunate enough to have known her.
