Let me express my sorrow in learning of the loss of Micala. How your heart must be filled with sadness, but at peace, knowing you will see her again. Please know that I am praying for you and your family and I do care. If there is anything at all that I can do for you, you need only ask.

Micala was one of the orneriest women it has ever been my pleasure to know.  She wasn't mean or bad because there was always the trace of a grin even when she wanted to smack me--which was often.  I remember going to her house on Thanksgiving one year and while everyone contributed a dish, her cooking was always easy to spot--excellent.  A couple of weeks ago when she was in the hospital I was having trouble understanding what she said, and I made the mistake of saying "You can't cook" and nodding my head.  And there was the grin and the raised hand to smack me.  I love ornery and I'll miss her greatly, .

 
Me and Kala would role play with Kala's Shirley Temple Theatre toy.  We would play for hours, and never get tired.
 
Kala convinced me when we were very young to go and visit Grandma in the middle of the night. Mommy and Daddy were asleep so she said it was okay, she would take care of me. So we packed our suitcases, bundled up and headed to Grandma's. What she didn't tell me was that there was a blizzard outside. Kala took me by the hand and we started out the door. I couldn't see anything in front of me, I couldn't see anything at all! Well, about 5 minutes into our adventure, Kala decided we better go back. So we did. 
 
We loved to cut out paper dolls when we were little. Our favorites were the Lennon Sisters and Shirley Temple.
 
Kala was a good sister to me. I always knew where I stood with her, and I always knew she loved me.

Kala's bond with me started immediately, the day she was born. She was the first thing that really was mine. Micala would sit on the front steps of our home on Lowell Boulevard and wait for me to get back from work. I had to ride the bus and the bus stop was about 2 1/2 blocks from our home. As soon as Micala saw me get off the bus, she started to run toward me, and I began to run toward her. I could see her little fat legs going 90 miles an hour. She knew Daddy had a surprise for her. I brought her home something every day.
 
This past year I have spent many a night having little talks with Kala. She couldn't sleep some nights, and neither could I; so we would just talk. These late night little talks were very special to me, and meant the world to me.

This past year Kala living with us meant a lot to me and her father. We enjoyed her so much. We played Skip-Bo every day and reminisced about happy and sad moments and events in our lives. 
 
I learned alot about Kala and she learned alot about me this past year by just ordinary every day living. It was the little things she did that meant so much to me.

Dear Sister, 
 
I am so happy for you that in the last few months that you were able to spend time with your daughters, granddaughter, Mom and Dad, and your loving sisters. We all love you deeply and will forever miss you.  You were always there for us when we really needed you and we will never forget that.  All of our arms around you surrounded with our love.  
That special time that I most remember is sitting in Mom and Dads garage in Mims after all the work was done helping them pack and move waiting for the last load for the movers to pick up and you and I sitting on buckets for at least two hours talking about everything and nothing and just enjoying the sisterhood. Thank you for teaching me to read, every time I pick up a book I will remember those flash cards I had to do nightly. 
Thank you for telling me that my freckles were kisses from God, and how special I was because I had so many freckles!
Thank you for the time you spent getting me the one and only Cabbage Patch doll with brown hair and blue eyes, named Cecelia. (However, 2 years was a long time to wait for that doll!)
Thank you for teaching me how to shave my armpits!
Thank you for showing me how to iron.
Thank you for teaching me how to make French Toast. 
Thank you for talking me through browning hamburger meat for the first time, over the phone after I had moved to NC!
Thank you for giving me some of my best days by taking me to the Winter Park library and making me appreciate the fun and magic books can bring. 
Thank you for co-signing on my first car. 
Thank you for buying Hope's crib and many many more things and how much fun we had picking all of her stuff out and how I had to tell you, enough! Leave some stuff for other people to buy! 
Thank you for taking me to my first laser light show at the Planetarium. Pink Floyd The Wall will always have a special place in my heart because of you.
Thank you for taking me to all the amusement parks, and making our times together an adventure. 
Thank you for leaving little gifts and cards for EVERY holiday on the table for when I woke up in the morning. To this day Valentine's Day is still my favorite holiday and that is because of you. 
Thank you for telling me that when I was little you could get me dressed put me in the backseat of the car and 5 minutes later I would be filthy. I now know that Hope inherated this from me!
Thank you for threatening to spank me with the wooden spoon, but never doing it!
Thank you for letting me crawl into bed with you every night because I was scared, no matter how old I was!
Thank you for being such a wonderful cook and making sure Deana and I had a home cooked meal every night even though you had to work most nights. I know you had to come home and cook or get the next nights meal ready, even though you were tired from working all day and night.
Thank you for making sure I always had a birthday party even though my birthday was so close to Christmas and not letting anyone combine my birthday with my Christmas gift, I still don't let people do that because of you!
Thank you for taking me to the park and letting me play for hours while you sat at the picnic table reading.
Thank you for teaching me how to play UNO and Trivial Pursuit and playing for hours on end with me and Deana.
Thank you for reading to me before bed every night, even if it was the same book over and over again!
Thank you for always letting me help you cook even though I just made a mess.
 
Thank you for loving me and being my mom. I miss you......

 
We little knew that morning that God was going to call your name,

We've had som really good times together.  Even though we've disagreed, we always were friends again and sisters always.  We had a lot of fun playing sipbo, sometimes all day and night.  I miss her eveyday, shes's always is my thoughts.  I Love Her.   Dee

First I would like to thank all of our friends and family for all of your love, prayers and support through this trying time, it is because of  Gods power and all of your support that gave us the strength to make it through. From all of the Varra family we are grateful.
Thank you to FBC Orlando for coming to visit Micala in the hospital, she got to experience God’s love through strangers and it touched her heart. She said when she gets better she would like to start volunteering there. She also got to meet Jeff Thompson, my friend and my pastor. He grew on her because of his wonderful since of humor. I’m sure he will tell you the rest of the story… thank you Jeff for showing her God’s love and that we can laugh even in the hard times.
On June 8th my sister was brought to the hospital thinking she was having a stroke, it was then when she found out that it was lung cancer and it had mastatised to her brain. From that point on it was bad news after bad news, but I am so proud of my sister, she was so brave and took every new bad news with courage. 
Even though it was so hard to watch my sister decline in her health I wouldn’t have given it up for the world. It was during these last two months we had some of the most precious times, we laughed , we cried and we talked about her life… her ups and her downs, her highlights and her regrets and this is what I want to share with all of you.
She talked about some of her favorite memories of  Deana and Cecelia, how she loved taking them to the science center. She talked about how wishes she had more time with them. That she realizes now that some things just don’t matter. That we shouldn’t hold on to things that we should forgive and that she loves Deana and She loves Cecelia and her wish is that they will keep coming around the family and that we could all forgive each other and be there for each other.  
She told me of all the good times she had with Deana, that they were always so close, that her Deana Beana would always make her smile. That she was so proud of her and how much she loved her calming spirit. That Deana was the peace maker the quiet one that always seemed to know what to say to her.
She talked about how her Celia was so much like her they both could speak their minds, they both had stubborn tendencies and because she was so much alike sometimes they bumped heads, but oh how she loved her. She loved the fact she was so independent and could face the world on her own. She admired that quality in her.
The week Cecelia was down she got to meet her granddaughter Hope for the first time. That day was magical, she watched Cecelia with her, she was so proud of the mother she has become. She got to hear Hope say I love you Grandma Kala. She was smiling ear to ear and tears coming down her face and she would say… Myrtzie, these are happy tears not sad tears.  She was so happy to have Deana and Cecelia by her side. She said she had missed them so much. She said it was  good having them there, having her little family together. 
She talked about what a wonderful year she had with mom and dad. She loved playing skip-o with mom, she loved taking care of them, she loved talking to mom and being with her . Yes having two women in the house there were times they would bump into each other but what a year she would say over and over again, what a wonderful year. It’s funny that dad said one of his favorite memories was their late night talks because it was one of her favorite memories as well. They would laugh they would get into some deep conversations.  I guess no matter how old your child gets you will always see them as your baby girl. She and mom talked about heaven together she talked about taking care of the babies in heaven. Kala was a wonderful caretaker of mom and dad for this past year in fact we all say she spoiled them. She actually was their caretaker till the end. Even in the nursing home she was trying to take care of them from her bed. 
She talked about the first time she was diagnosed with cancer several years ago how she shut herself off from family and friends, she said that was not the way to go that it is so much better having family around her. She talked about how much she loved each and every one of her sisters and how much she has enjoyed laughing and talking to them. Again she cried and said… Myrtzie these are happy tears not sad tears. She talked about how much joy she had being with her sisters. She talked about how special it was for the time she had with Sheri, Crystal and Jenny. How much joy it brought to her seeing Hope and Jordan playing together, being a family together
That was the miracle in all this, that God can bring joy in all situations. Scripture says:
I asked her the hard questions like have you ever prayed and surrendered your life to Jesus, she said yes and she described the moment. She called out to Him saying she was sorry and she needed Him. So I know right now I can only imagine she is walking on the streets of gold, she is in the arms of Jesus, talking to loved ones who died before her, she even said she was going to give our brother in law Kenny a little pinch. So today we celebrate her life, today is for us, the ones left behind to remember her and to hold on to her legacy… that life is too short to hold on to bitterness and unforgiveness her words of wisdom to me was to love and to forgive and to always keep your family close.  She saw the healing that has taken place and she wants her family to stick together.
Just like it says in scripture:
And she had her family surrounding her, holding her to the song of Amazing Grace as she step out of this world into the mansion in the kingdom of God.
Micala we love you and we will miss you… we already miss you. Amen

I didn't know Micala very well, however I have been friends with her sister, Myrtzie for  over 20 years. I had the honor to visit Micala while she was in the nursing home. Then went to sit with her after she came home to stay at her mother's house. It was my priviledge to be there. "I will take time especially Saturday afternoon to remember my elder cousin, who, when I was a kid a whole year younger than Micala, I always thought of as sophisticated (she lived in that big city of Denver, where she went to places like Elitch's Gardens and had bands like the Beatles playing at Red Rocks), a bit exotic (Florida was a place where worldly people moved to), and best of all, she never failed to be a fun, older playmate who couldn't be faulted for being a girl. I'm going to miss her badly...but I'm thankful to still have my Varra cousins (all more than ok for girls) here and in the next life, and I wish them peaceful memories."

Some of my favorite memories of Micala are TV shows we watched and shared the day after they showed, telling me stories about the fat cats in the backyard, and the squirrels and birds. One of her pet peeves is the elderly driving. LOL It's either get run over by electric carts at Walmart or get run over by a car on the road. LOL I will miss the coffee brewing in the morning and her coming down the hallway in the morning. She was one of my best friends. Love you, good ole mom
