Robert August Fiebrandt, born in Oak Park, Illinois on August 31, 1924 died on January 6, 2020 in Winter Park, FL. He was the son of August Henry and Mathilda Weber Fiebrandt. He grew up in Elmhurst, IL, attending public schools through high school. Before serving in the Army, he was an apprentice machinist while also attending Chicago Technical College. He entered the Army in September 1942, serving 26 months on the front lines in France, Belgium and Germany during World War II. He was awarded the Purple Heart for injuries suffered in battle. After discharge, he enrolled in the Illinois Institute of Technology while also working as a tool and die maker. Soon he was hired in the Aircraft Engine Division of Ford Motor Company in Chicago as a tool and die designer. In 1947, he met the love of his life, Loretta Tugman, in Yellowstone National Park. They were married in Salt Lake City in June of 1948 and lived and loved each other for 71-1/2 years. In 1959, the family moved to Orlando, Florida where he began a career at Martin Marietta (later Lockheed Martin) as a manufacturing engineer and raised his family. During his off hours he completed his Bachelor’s Degree at Rollins College. He retired from Lockheed after 26 years at which point he traveled extensively throughout the United States, Europe and Australasia. Bob loved the outdoors, particularly boating, driving a series of “big rigs”, fishing and golfing. He was the ultimate handyman, never throwing anything away, and fixing nearly everything he got his hands on.
He is survived by his loving wife, Loretta, his two sons Randall Robert (and Joan) and Mark Jeffrey (and Laura), 5 grandchildren (Christina, Tricia, Jamison, Richard and Kelly), and 3 great grandchildren (Owen, Evan and Anna). A Celebration of Life will be held at Allegro, at 2701 Howell Branch Road, Winter Park, FL on Saturday, January 18th at 1:30 PM followed by interment at Glen Haven Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Heart Association are suggested.
