Ruby Jewell Walker

Ruby Jewell Walker, 91, of Winter Park, FL passed away on December 16, 2016. She was born to the late Elmer and Beulah Crone on September 5, 1925 in Decatur, Arkansas. Ruby was a loving mother, sister, “Grandmom,” and friend. Throughout her lifetime she found great joy in children, caring for newborns to 1-year-olds voluntarily. She was a gifted seamstress and was always dressed in carefully coordinated outfits for church, always including a beautiful hat. Ruby was a Sunday school teacher for many years for her beloved Killarney Baptist Church in Winter Park, FL where she was a very active member. She and her family moved to Winter Park in 1960. Ruby was happily married to her late husband, Belton Walker, for nearly 58 years prior to his passing in 2004. Together, they shared many wonderful times raising 4 children, Glen, Kay, Anthony, and Byron. As a family, they enjoyed traveling to California to visit family, playing games, and listening to many “Ruby-isms.” Ruby was known for logging every detail of their family trips, as well as keeping calendars full of notes of important dates and milestones. She was a perfect fit for the PTA while her children were in school and gave of her time openly. Ruby also had a knack for yard care, tending to her African violets among many beautiful flowers she adored. She was always full of life and laughter and knew how to have a good time with her many friends she made wherever she went. Ruby will be missed by all those who knew and loved her.

Ruby was preceded in passing by her parents and her husband, Belton. She is survived by her children, Glen Walker, Kay Townsend and her husband George, Anthony Walker and his wife Lisa, and Byron Walker; her sister, Rema Richards; her grandchildren, Ryan, Olivia, Katie, Jessica, Justin, and Alyse; and 3 great-grandchildren, Jackson, Penny, and Adaline.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, December 21 from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm at Baldwin Fairchild Ivanhoe, 301 NE Ivanhoe Blvd, Orlando, FL 32804. Funeral Service will follow Thursday, December 22 at 11:00 am at Killarney Baptist Church, 701 Formosa Ave., Winter Park, FL 32789. Interment will follow the service at Glen Haven Memorial Park, 2300 Temple Dr., Winter Park, FL, 32789.
